Shaoyang: respecting multi-sector and river boundaries in a World Heritage Danxia landscape

Langshan is not one peak but a heritage landscape formed by several Danxia sectors, river and villages. Different routes reveal different scales of one geomorphic process and cannot substitute for each other.

  • Recognise the setting in which culture actually occurs — Relate peak clusters, linear valleys, isolated forms and river incision, and notice how buses and capacity controls manage dispersed sectors.
  • Participate only where the setting clearly allows it — Use only named jetties, licensed boats and clear safety rules for river activities, and hike only in open sectors under current weather.
  • Separate residents’ lives, ritual and performance — Do not mark rock, cross barriers, enter fields or homes, and yield in narrow rock passages.
