Zhoushan Seafood Processing

Zhoushan brings ports, distant-water returns, cold-chain plants and international markets together in an island city, with voyage and landing lot starting the trace. In 2024 it had more than 100 above-scale seafood processors and roughly half of Zhejiang capacity, while any shipment still needs species, net weight and temperature checks.

Formation and regional foundations

East China Sea catch and distant-water inputs are weighed, identified and pre-cooled at the quay before entering whole-fish, cutting, cooking or preparation lines. Island cold stores and reefers connect plants with destination ports, recording seals and temperature through transfers.

Zhoushan compresses ports, distant-water returns, cold-chain plants and international markets into an island city. In 2024 it had 100-plus above-scale processors and 300-plus advanced lines or equipment, with roughly half of Zhejiang capacity and four percent nationally; a separate list identifies Dayangshijia, Zhejiang Xingye and China Fisheries Zhoushan. Capacity share is regional context; delivery traces voyage, species and landing lot through plant and destination port.

Spatial view of Zhoushan Seafood Processing

Five functional nodes in Zhoushan Seafood Processing

Vessel, port, plant, cold store and destination follow cargo flow; the lines are not fleet or customer lists.

  • Zhoushan input and regional entry — Origin and timing conditions for fishing-port inputs and distant-water returns.
  • Zhoushan collection node — Harvest, grading and local collection for fishing-port inputs and distant-water returns.
  • Zhoushan processing node — Process and lot controls for cold-chain further processing and international trade shows.
  • Zhoushan quality-check node — Zhoushan Seafood Processing check point for standards, tests and labels.
  • Zhoushan logistics and market node — Storage, transport and delivery conditions for Zhoushan Seafood Processing.

01 · Island-city and capacity scope

Island-city capacity is layered from port, plant and voyage.

A 2025 Zhejiang Daily report reviews Zhoushan’s processing capacity in 2024, an agricultural list identifies companies, and a trade-promotion page records 21 exhibitors. The three sources concern regional capability, legal identity and market activity; they do not point to one plant. A citywide total cannot represent the catch of a particular vessel, which must retain its voyage date, landing point and subsequent processing plant.

Zhoushan spans islands, port areas and plants, while distant-water and coastal products may land separately. A city capacity share cannot show one vessel’s landing time or a plant’s schedule. Voyage, port and plant address remain independent. If island-city strength replaces voyage records, differences among fishing area, landing time and input freshness disappear, while hold-temperature change returns to the actual voyage and its hold.

A field map classifies ports, stores, plants and quay inspection points with dates. One vessel or farm lot traces from landing slip to truck seal and plant intake. Exhibition records and automated-line updates are entry points, not goods movement. A visit route first locates landing, pre-cooling, plant and reefer station, then connects the four places with an actual voyage, and one goods code and handover time connect all four stops.

  • City capacity is not one plant schedule.
  • Voyage, landing and plant are separate.
  • Exhibitor lists are market entry points.

02 · Firms, equipment and shares

100-plus firms, 300-plus units and two approximations cannot be added.

In 2024, Zhoushan had more than 100 above-scale seafood processors and more than 300 advanced production lines or machines. The same report put processing capacity at roughly half of Zhejiang's total and four percent of the national total. These figures describe a company count, an equipment count and two geographic shares; they cannot be added or allocated among individual firms. Qualifiers such as “more than” and “roughly” should stay with the values, together with the year and statistical scope.

The 300-plus count combines lines and equipment and cannot be divided by firms. Provincial and national shares use different denominators — 50 and four percent are not separate capacity pools — Regional capability cannot be allocated to three named entities. Company count does not show lines per firm, and equipment count does not mean all units operate; deriving capacity would amplify both approximations, while idle equipment enters neither daily availability nor promised capacity.

The table separates above-scale firms, line-equipment units and capacity shares for 2024. A plant assessment obtains its equipment, shifts, species and actual yield. A later change in unit definition prevents direct comparison. When citing the data, retain “more than” and report date, then check operating, maintenance, changeover and conforming-output records at the target plant, and field records state product, shift and actual operating hours.

  • 300-plus combines lines and equipment.
  • The two shares use different denominators.
  • Regional capacity is not allocated to firms.

03 · Catch origin and landing

Voyage, species and landing time define input identity.

A ministry technology visit enters Zhoushan seafood, while a tax account follows one fish through the chain. They show vessel-shore links without supplying catch area, species and landing time for a lot. Distant-water, coastal capture and farmed goods remain separate — Voyage, species, wild or farmed source and landing time jointly establish input identity; “Zhoushan seafood” alone is insufficient, and farmed seafood also retains its base document and harvest date.

One common name can cover different species, while catch area and season alter documents. Delayed pre-cooling after landing cannot be repaired by later freezing. Port strength cannot fill voyage logs or temperature gaps. Two loads at one port may differ in time out of water, hold temperature and berthing wait, producing different freshness and processing routes, while berthing delay enters the freshness finding and any claim record separately.

Intake requires Chinese and scientific name, vessel-voyage, catch area or farm, harvest date, landing time and starting temperature. Quay samples are sealed and checked at plant — Mixed vessels or species create separate lots. Before unloading, record vessel or farm paper, species, hold, time and temperature; mixed fish are sampled by source before grading, and species names on grading samples are checked individually and photographed clearly at the site.

  • Common names do not replace scientific species.
  • Later freezing cannot restore initial freshness.
  • Mixed-vessel goods use separate lots.

04 · Pre-cooling, freezing and processing

Whole, cut, cooked and prepared goods have different yields.

A Zhoushan municipal update records three automated seafood deep-processing lines, Zhejiang Daily describes equipment upgrades, and a technical visit discusses processing problems. The sources establish use of automation, not equal output across species, specifications or processes. Whole fish, cuts, cooked goods and prepared products use different input units and yields, so pre-cooling, freezing and every change of form need their own weight, lot and temperature entry.

Heading, gutting, cutting, cooking, freezing and glazing change net weight. Automation improves consistency but still depends on size, cleaning, defrosting and yield. Rated speed is not daily supply — Deep freezing cannot repair a pre-landing temperature break; net-content findings also fail if glaze weight or thaw loss is not separated, while the cause of a temperature break is resolved before loading.

For three lots of one species and grade, record input, stage loss, net weight, glaze and downtime. Species change checks line clearance and allergens. Available volume uses recent shifts and conforming output, not city equipment count. At the plant, trace one carton through input, cutting, freezing and packing weight, then compare theoretical yield with that day’s actual loss, and trim and conforming goods are reconciled separately.

  • Process changes net weight.
  • Rated speed is not daily supply.
  • Species change checks lines and allergens.

05 · Vessel-to-shore traceability and testing

Vessel-to-shore traceability links catch area, landing lot and plant sample.

Ministry research discusses key technology and a municipal update records three automated lines, but operating equipment does not by itself trace every lot to a vessel. Business records must connect fishing area, voyage, landing lot, vehicle, plant-input lot and laboratory sample through convertible codes. A company name cannot replace that chain, and the fishing-area name should retain its original wording.

If a plant combines vessels, the later report covers the mixed lot and cannot prove every item from one vessel. Farmed goods retain pond or base lots. Traceability aims to locate affected goods quickly rather than accumulate papers. A report matching species but not process lot can still assign microbiological, net-weight or additive findings to the wrong goods, while the sample number must match the same processing date.

Trace one carton back through sample, process lot, input, truck and landing slip, checking weight and date sequence. Mixed lots retain each source quantity — An oral-only conversion must be documented before the carton moves onward. Before dispatch, place carton code, report sample and reefer seal on one handover sheet; a gap pauses loading for further checks, and follow-up findings stay with the loading paper.

  • Automation does not create traceability.
  • A mixed-lot report covers the mixture.
  • Back-tracing checks weight and dates.

06 · Port logistics and trade fairs

A European exhibition proves market contact, not sales or long-term customers.

A Zhejiang trade-promotion page records 21 Zhoushan exhibitors at a European seafood show, while the information page describes capacity. Exhibitor count and regional capability show activity without sales, customers or repeat orders. An event date is not an annual order book. European exhibition material shows that Zhoushan firms contacted a target market, but discloses no transaction, customer identity or recurring order volume, and the event date limits the market conclusion.

European buyers commonly ask for species names, capture area and method, plant registration, label language and temperatures across the journey. A small exhibition pack shows product form, whereas an export lot needs customs, traceability and cold-chain papers for that shipment. Fishing season, exchange rates and reefer space all move the price, so suppliers should cost a proposed route through loading density, transit temperature and port waiting rather than quote from a regional export share.

An exhibition lead is checked for entity, species, destination, certificates and sample. Trial shipping retains packing, seal, temperature, clearance and receipt. Channel assessment follows actual dispatch and payment records. When exhibition contact becomes a trial, specify species, process, glaze, net weight, certificates and arrival deadline before scheduling receipt sampling, and trial certificates are checked for the destination country.

  • Twenty-one is an exhibitor count.
  • A stand sample is not a commercial lot.
  • Channel assessment waits for dispatch and payment.

07 · Three Zhoushan entities

Dayangshijia, Zhejiang Xingye and China Fisheries Zhoushan appear in an agricultural list.

A 2025 Zhejiang agricultural page names Dayangshijia (Zhejiang) Company Limited, Zhejiang Xingye Group Company Limited and China Fisheries Zhoushan Marine Fisheries Company Limited Brackets and legal wording remain exact. The list supports identity and inclusion context, not current goods. Dayangshijia, Zhejiang Xingye and China Fisheries Zhoushan are named in an agricultural record, proving only exact identity and dated context, and the listing date stays with the entity record.

All three names relate to seafood context but do not establish shared species, process, customers or fleets. Joint inclusion creates no equity or supply relation. Capability requires separate plant, permit, lot and formal records. Joint appearance proves no shared fleet, plant or market, and words such as seafood or fishery do not confirm current goods, while fleet information is never inferred from a name.

Before contact, check full name, credit code, plant and export role — Inquiries state species, grade, form, temperature, port and quantity. Different producer, exporter, brand or payee roles need authority rather than assumption from a group name. Before contact, verify credit code, address and contracting entity for each firm; enquire by exact species and form without inferring capability from names, and the replying entity should match the contract heading.

  • All names retain legal forms.
  • Joint inclusion creates no fleet relation.
  • Transaction roles receive individual authority checks.

08 · Cold-chain procurement checks

Final evidence closes across voyage, landing, processing, reefer and receipt.

Six sources locate Zhoushan capacity, technology research, market activity, automated-line use and three entities, but they do not verify a seafood shipment. Macro strength locates ports and firms; goods risk remains species, freshness, traceability, net weight, temperature and destination papers. Six sources describe capability position, technical investigation, exhibition activity and three identities, yet accept no deliverable seafood shipment, and received quantity still follows actual net weight.

When a shipment lacks its voyage or catch area, later testing can describe the sample but cannot reconstruct the raw-material origin. A break in refrigerated transport likewise means that factory release no longer proves condition on arrival. Records from the same company, species or a neighbouring lot are not substitutes; this shipment needs a continuous waybill, lot-conversion trail and temperature history.

Before ordering, seal a sample and confirm species, capture or farmed origin, process, net weight and destination certificates. Check temperature and seal at container loading, then inspect the complete reefer curve, cartons and samples on arrival. Trace each received carton back through its processing lot, landing lot and voyage, aligning receipt time with the temperature record. Closure of one discrepancy supports later cargo only for the same species and process, not another product.

  • Macro strength does not verify a shipment.
  • A temperature break defeats factory-only conformity.
  • Closed-loop experience stays with same species and process.
