Zhangjiakou Xuanhua geotechnical equipment

Xuanhua geotechnical equipment shares one task—delivering energy to the bit or working face—yet its machines address very different ground, hole diameters, depths and site organisations. Cluster revenue reached RMB 13.54 billion in 2024, up 56%, while another profile counted 286 machine and supporting firms using 2023 data. Regional growth does not prove that a rig fits a project; procurement must still match geology, hole geometry, drilling method, flushing medium, mobility, dust control and service response.

Formation and regional foundations

Configuration is worked backward from ground and task. A surface blast-hole rig balances collar accuracy, penetration, compressed air and dust collection on a bench. Water-well and geothermal work emphasises deep-hole tripping, bore support and cuttings removal. An underground jumbo is constrained by heading size, ventilation, power and personnel clearance, while a bolting rig links hole placement, support material and rock-exposure time. Xuanhua combines rigs, hammers, rods, bits and repair support, shortening prototype and spare routes, but site fit still needs drilling records, consumable life, failure modes and safety conditions.

A rig's value does not lie in the maximum depth printed in a brochure. It lies in making stable holes in the target ground, clearing cuttings, controlling dust and letting a crew finish a shift safely. Xuanhua supplies surface down-the-hole and top-hammer machines, water-well, underground development, production, bolting and shaft equipment, plus hammers, rods, bits and repair. That range creates choice and also misapplication: under the word 'drill', energy transfer, feed, rotation, flushing medium and work organisation can be entirely different.

Core geography: An equipment cluster in and around Xuanhua Economic Development Area covering surface down-the-hole and top-hammer drilling, water-well and geothermal work, underground development and production, bolting and scaling, drill tools, hydraulics, pneumatics and service

Configuration route from ground to service

Fix the hole before selecting impact, rotation and flushing

Nodes represent engineering decisions, not the physical layout of one factory.

  • Ground and hole target — Fixes rock, fractures, overburden, diameter, depth, direction, accuracy and output.
  • Drilling method and flushing — Selects down-the-hole, top-hammer, rotary or coring and defines air, water or mud conditions.
  • Rig and power configuration — Matches carrier, feed, rotation, impact, air, hydraulics, dust collection, power and operator environment.
  • Rods, bits and consumables — Selects tools and spares for energy transfer, bending, threads, abrasion and cuttings removal.
  • Field trial and shift record — Records penetration, fuel or power, deviation, rod changes, stops, consumables and dust performance.
  • Spares, repair and improvement — Closes fault codes, wear parts, stock, response time, training and the next configuration.

01 · Let the ground speak first

A purchase specification begins with rock, fractures and hole objectives, not engine power or maximum depth.

Xuanhua supplies rotary, down-the-hole, rock-drilling and underground machines. The broader the range, the more precise the ground duty must be. Competent hard rock, fractured zones, overburden and aquifers affect breaking efficiency, bore stability and cuttings removal differently. 'Granite mine' or 'geothermal project' still does not select a rig.

Ground information should become a measurable hole: diameter and terminal depth, inclination, azimuth, permissible deviation, time per hole, shift output and final purpose. Blast holes focus on pattern and charging, wells on completion and yield, and bolt holes on support position and exposure time. Identical diameters can still require different feed force, tools and cleaning methods.

At preselection, require a duty-deviation table that states missing information, assumptions and exclusions. If a supplier uses one successful case for every geology, ask for that case's rock, diameter, altitude, ambient temperature, shifts and measurement period. Without those boundaries, the fastest penetration rate is a number that cannot be reproduced.

  • Ground type becomes hole parameters.
  • Hole purpose changes configuration.
  • A case needs operating boundaries.

02 · Impact location shapes air and tools

Down-the-hole, top-hammer and rotary are not size grades; they are different energy and flushing systems.

Down-the-hole drilling places the hammer at the bottom, with compressed air powering impact and carrying cuttings, which suits many surface medium and deep holes. Compressor pressure and flow, altitude correction, line loss, bit diameter and cuttings return need one calculation. Comparing only rig power overlooks the air system's control of penetration and fuel use.

Top-hammer equipment impacts at the upper drill string and sends energy through rods and couplings. It can be fast and mobile in shallow and medium holes but is more sensitive to reflection, thread condition and deviation as the string grows. Rotary or coring equipment centres on torque, weight on bit, mud circulation and core quality. One metres-per-hour figure cannot rank all three methods.

Jinke publicly offers integrated and split down-the-hole rigs, water-well, anchoring, piling and core machines, giving several method entries. A buyer still fixes onboard or external air, hose movement, cold starting and dust collection, and includes compressor maintenance in rig availability. A lower-priced split arrangement is not necessarily a simpler system.

  • The air system makes the hole.
  • String length changes energy transfer.
  • A split arrangement is accepted as a system.

03 · Deep holes begin with tripping and bore stability

Water-well and geothermal rigs cannot be selected by rated depth alone; well design and ground transitions determine time.

A deep water or geothermal well may pass through overburden, loose formations, aquifers and bedrock, with diameter changing by casing stage. The machine needs lifting capacity for rods, tools and casing, together with mast height, clamps, breakout, mud pump or air system. A maximum depth without rod size and well design has limited value.

Poor cuttings removal causes regrinding, stuck tools, bore erosion or uncontrolled surface mud. Air reverse circulation, direct mud circulation, foam and casing advance each have limits, while water scarcity, cold climate and residential settings change supply, noise and discharge constraints. The project should define pits, waste fluid and cuttings destination before drilling.

A well trial should separate pure drilling, rod handling, fault waiting, development and completion, while verifying deviation, depth and casing condition. If the supplier reports only instantaneous penetration while the bit turns, the project cannot estimate calendar duration. Auxiliary time, consumables and risk control often drive deep-hole cost.

  • Depth binds to well design.
  • Cuttings handling precedes drilling.
  • Auxiliary time enters the schedule.

04 · Underground machines obey the heading

Profile, ventilation, power, support sequence and personnel clearance decide whether a jumbo can work.

Huatai publicly separates shaft, development, production and bolting or scaling product families, each tied to a different underground operation. A development jumbo drills the face pattern, a production rig makes fan or parallel medium-deep holes, a bolter follows excavation with support, and shaft equipment works within shaft and stage constraints. Calling all of them underground drills erases process interfaces.

Machine envelope, turning radius, stabiliser deployment and boom coverage must match measured, not theoretical, heading dimensions. Cable and hose handling, diesel exhaust, battery charging or exchange, lighting and noise alter ventilation and work organisation. Mining products also require the applicable safety marking and electrical protection status.

Underground acceptance should record positioning time, hole sequence, automation use, manual correction, stuck tools, bit changes and personnel exposure, not merely holes per round. For support work, hole, bolt or cable, resin or grout, torque and pull result form one quality chain. Accepting the rig without accepting support leaves risk in the rock mass.

  • Underground products map to specific operations.
  • Envelope matches measured clearance.
  • Support results belong in equipment acceptance.

05 · Drill tools decide cost per metre

A rig creates metres only while the bit engages rock and clears cuttings; threads and wear are not minor accessories.

Hammer, shank, coupling, rod and bit form an energy chain. One mismatched interface causes loss, uneven wear or early failure. A rig purchase should lock thread system, diameter, length, steel and heat-treatment requirements, plus approved alternatives and stock. Otherwise the machine can arrive and stop for want of one coupling.

Abrasive ground accelerates bit and rod-diameter loss, while fractures and deviation add bending and thread load. Life analysis should separate normal wear, carbide loss, rod break, thread damage and hammer failure, recording ground and operation at the event. Labelling every replacement as a consumable hides configuration or training problems.

Bids can be compared as cost per accepted hole metre, including bits and rods, fuel or power, compressor, crew, support vehicles, planned maintenance and breakdown. A cheap tool that causes deviation, loss in hole or fishing quickly turns savings into site loss. The supplier should provide wear measurement, regrinding and discard criteria.

  • The drill string is an energy chain.
  • Failure modes are counted separately.
  • Compare cost per accepted metre.

06 · A trial must record the whole shift

Instantaneous penetration shows rock breaking; shift data shows whether machine, crew and support work together.

A field trial should use representative ground and planned holes, continuously covering prestart, positioning, drilling, rod handling, cleaning, relocation and end-of-shift care. Records include penetration and deviation plus fuel or power, air parameters, temperature and pressure, dust, noise, alarms, stops and replaced parts. Selecting the smoothest ten minutes overstates availability.

Environmental disclosures for non-road mobile machinery can verify a named firm and model's emissions information, but appearing in a list does not establish suitability for every site. The project also checks engine stage, fuel requirement, after-treatment maintenance, cold and altitude correction, and separates emissions from the rig and an external compressor.

Acceptance thresholds belong before the trial and can be stratified by ground. Measures may include accepted-hole rate, mean and percentile penetration, deviation, shift availability, unit energy, dust control, consumables and safety events. An average alone can smooth away a small number of severe stuck-tool or breakdown events.

  • A full shift beats a momentary peak.
  • Rig and compressor emissions are separated.
  • Acceptance captures tail risk.

07 · Three manufacturers occupy different segments

Evidence for broad rigs, surface down-the-hole machines and underground jumbos differs; a cluster list is not a homogeneous supplier table.

Hebei's industry authority lists Epiroc Zhangjiakou as a cluster leading firm, while environmental disclosure identifies a fully hydraulic surface down-the-hole model. The current GIA brand page traces the No. 1 Changzhi South Road factory to Xuanhua Pneumatic Tool Works and describes surface and underground rigs, tools and spares. Procurement should therefore verify the current legal entity, brand authority and service responsibility together.

Xuanhua Jinke publicly centres on integrated and split down-the-hole rigs, extending to water wells, anchoring, piling, coring and compressor support. Environmental lists of named well and down-the-hole models provide another verification route. A Jinke enquiry should focus on surface holes, air system, mobility and tools rather than generalising the firm into every form of underground mining equipment.

A Hebei government profile identifies Xuanhua Huatai as private and separates shaft, development, production and bolting or scaling families, naming the CYTC76 production rig and CMJ2-30(A) development jumbo. Its assessment should centre on underground profile, boom coverage, hydraulic rock drilling, mining electrics and support sequence. Surface down-the-hole criteria would miss the company's actual boundary.

  • Verify the current brand and legal entity.
  • Jinke focuses on down-the-hole and well duties.
  • Huatai maps to underground operations.

08 · Delivery means sustained hole-making capability

Machine, tools, crew, spares and response time together decide whether the project advances to plan.

Xuanhua's cluster revenue grew quickly in 2024, and 286 machine and supporting firms were counted for 2023, showing a broad local supply and collaboration base. Buyers can use the cluster to compare configurations and source local parts, but the main contract still names one responsible manufacturer and identifies in-house and purchased components, system performance ownership and warranty.

Contract schedules should include duty specification, configuration, interfaces, performance guarantees, field-trial method, training, special tools, initial consumables, recommended stock and service level. A remote mine or cold site also needs boundaries for remote diagnosis, engineer arrival, substitute-part approval and downtime responsibility. A factory certificate cannot cover these operating conditions.

After commissioning, review accepted hole metres, availability, unit energy, tool consumption, major failures and service duration monthly, tagging ground changes and crews. Xuanhua is building a shared platform for innovation, digital upgrading, training and association services, which projects can use. Their own operating data should nevertheless remain controlled between owner and responsible supplier to update the next configuration.

  • The main contract keeps one accountable party.
  • Service levels enter the schedules.
  • Operating data updates configuration.

Sources and reading notes

The unit of judgement is a drilling duty with defined ground, diameter, depth, direction and production rhythm. A buyer places rock and fractures, bench or heading space, power and air, cuttings and dust, relocation route, crew skill, consumables and service radius in one duty specification, then compares equipment through field trials and total cost. Cluster revenue, firm count and market position describe regional supply; they do not replace a model's performance curve, emissions information, mining-safety requirements or site result.

  • Xuanhua's geotechnical-equipment cluster reported 2024 revenue of RMB 13.54 billion.
  • The same source reported year-on-year revenue growth of 56% in 2024.
  • A cluster profile using 2023 data counted 286 machine and supporting firms.
  • That profile also recorded 58 high-quality firms.
