INDUSTRY CLUSTER · Food manufacturing
Yantai wine and regional foods
Yantai’s wine cluster spans vineyards, wineries and large plants, barrels and bottles, testing and R&D, brand marketing, wine tourism, restaurants and retail. Buyers can compare major brands, state-backed production and private wineries while examining the chain from vineyard and fermentation through ageing and channels.
Formation and regional foundations
Changyu began industrial wine production in Yantai in 1892. A suitable coastal climate and long grape-growing history supported subregions in Penglai, the development zone, Laishan and Longkou. The city’s 1+2+X layout and chain-leader system integrate vineyards, production, supplies, standards, tourism and marketing.
Yantai wine begins in vineyard management, moves through harvest, fermentation, ageing, blending and bottling, and then reaches hospitality, retail and regional tourism. Coastal conditions and estate density create style differences as well as vintage variation. Procurement needs origin, variety, lot and regulatory label in one product file.

Yantai Wine Regional Flow
Vineyard, Cellar, Bottling and Market Interfaces
Nodes show common regional processes and services; estate count is not one capacity and implies no intercompany supply.
- Vineyards and harvest lots — Records parcel, variety, maturity, harvest date and weather.
- Fermentation and cellar control — Controls yeast, temperature, maceration, transfers and ageing vessels.
- Blending and style development — Builds combinations from base lots, sensory targets and market use.
- Stability and bottling checks — Checks acidity, sulphur dioxide, microbiology, fill and closure.
- Hospitality, retail and wine tourism — Connects distribution, hotels, e-commerce, gifting and estate visits.
- Exports and regional identity — Matches destination access, labels, origin and vintage claims.
01 · Four Regional Figures, Four Denominators
Producer, estate, supplier and brand-value measures cannot be added.
A 2025 regional introduction from Yantai's commerce authority records more than two hundred wine producers, over sixty estates and more than two hundred fifty supporting firms, and places regional-brand value above RMB 86.2 billion. A separate industry programme describes spatial and value-chain arrangements including a 1+2+X structure. The figures and layout all belong to the Yantai region.
A producer may also be counted as an estate, while supporting firms can include closures, bottles, equipment, testing and tourism services. Brand value is an appraisal measure rather than sales, profit or assets. Dividing the four figures or allocating them to one winery would mix entities, activities and measurement methods.
A regional update should separately seek an active-producer register, estate definition and list, classifications for supporting firms and a brand appraisal under the same method. Each item needs an as-of date, geographic boundary and operating status. Company sales or capacity require statutory disclosure rather than inference from regional totals.
- Regional brand value is not company revenue, and entity count does not prove current operation.
02 · The Regional Network after 1892
History, coastal conditions and modern specialisation shape Yantai together.
Changyu's historical account traces industrial wine production in Yantai to 1892, and regional information shows a broad network of vineyards, estates and supporting firms. The long history has accumulated skills in growing, winemaking, packaging and marketing. The industry programme then organises subregions and market entry points around that base.
A coastal climate does not create one style: parcel, aspect, variety, rainfall and harvest determine each year's fruit. A large winery can blend across parcels, while a small estate may preserve a single-site difference. Each model has its own quality logic, and regional history cannot replace vintage records.
The vineyard record follows each parcel from pruning, crop protection, irrigation and yield control through maturity, harvest timing and transport. When the grapes reach the winery, the parcel lot continues through sorting, the fermentation vessel and the resulting base wine. If fruit from different areas or vintages enters a blend, the label and internal traceability change with it.
- Regional history explains accumulated resources, not equal results across vintages or estates.
03 · Separating Changyu History from Current Products
Brand history provides context; an order still fixes wine, vintage and plant.
The Yantai regional account places Changyu within local wine development, while the company website provides brand and product entry points. Together they establish its longstanding regional role. They do not allocate the region's two hundred-plus producers, sixty-plus estates or brand value to Changyu.
One company may sell red, white, sparkling wine and brandy across several price bands, with different grape origins and production sites. Vintage wine retains a harvest year, while non-vintage products use blending for continuity. A buyer cannot specify only Changyu wine and must identify the full item and lot rule.
An enquiry states variety or wine type, vintage, origin claim, alcohol, volume, package, quantity, destination and delivery date. After sample approval, production bottles are checked for label, lot code, closure and remaining life. Gift packs or custom labels require artwork and regulatory review before packaging is ordered.
- A large brand spans many products, so a company name cannot define a particular lot.
04 · Analytical Compliance Still Needs Sensory and Stability Checks
Weilong company identity cannot replace complete bottle acceptance.
Yantai's industry programme defines regional development, while official brand information identifies Weilong Wine Co., Ltd. as a local producer. Policy and identity are separately established but disclose neither the full current range nor company output or orders. A wine still needs its production address, vintage and lot.
Alcohol, total and volatile acidity and sulphur dioxide are laboratory measures; oxidation, reduction, cork taint and imbalance also require controlled sensory assessment. Cold and protein stability determine whether crystals or haze appear after transport. One passing test sheet can miss problems caused by closure, fill level and distribution.
The acceptance plan samples finished bottles by shipment lot and checks label, bottle, fill, closure, chemistry, microbiology and sensory quality, followed by testing after temperature or vibration exposure. Dispute samples are sealed by both sides with an agreed retest laboratory. A new closure or filling line restarts the stability assessment.
- Origin, vintage, acidity, microbiology and closure jointly form release conditions.
05 · Penglai Estates and the COFCO Great Wall Boundary
Company activity and regional history provide different levels of fact.
Changyu's history describes the early industrial development of Yantai wine, while COFCO Wines' official introduction confirms the company contact for COFCO Great Wall Wine (Penglai). One concerns regional history and the other entity identity. Neither establishes ownership, supply or shared production between Changyu and COFCO Great Wall.
Penglai may denote an administrative area, grape origin, project location or brand expression, and the four meanings are not interchangeable. A company site in Penglai does not prove that all grapes come from that area. Origin for a bottle depends on the applicable standard, label claim, ingredients and production records.
A discussion with COFCO Great Wall can first confirm contracting entity, plant, wine, grape source and vintage before ageing, bottling and inventory status. Estate visits or brand events use a separate operator and contract from product procurement. Tourism reception should never become an automatic claim of supply capability.
- A company in the region does not command every vineyard, estate or supporting resource.
06 · Different Channels Need Different Wines and Stocks
Weilong product discussions move from use occasion to sell-through data.
Yantai's region contains producers, estates and broad supporting services, and public Weilong brand information provides one company contact. Regional scale enables comparison of styles and services but does not reveal Weilong's channel mix across hospitality, retail, gifting or exports. Current channel capability requires company confirmation.
Hospitality values opened-bottle rotation, by-the-glass performance and reliable replenishment; gifting emphasises appearance and seasonal timing; e-commerce adds breakage and temperature swings; exports require destination labels and import permits. One base wine may use several sizes and cartons. Combining channel stocks can hide both slow sales and shortages.
The first order sets package, minimum remaining life, transport and return terms by channel and assigns separate item codes. After three months, arrival condition, rotation, discounting, complaints and repeat purchase are compared. If a wine succeeds in only one setting, that channel boundary remains rather than being stretched by regional fame.
- Hospitality, gifting, e-commerce and export cannot share one package and stock strategy.
07 · Three Wineries Listed Together Do Not Create Trade
Location, policy and company identity support only their own scope.
The industry programme maps Yantai's wine geography and products, while COFCO Great Wall information confirms the Penglai company's identity. Changyu, Weilong and COFCO Great Wall appearing in one region shows distinct operators. Available information does not jointly disclose purchases, contract production, customers or shared facilities among them.
Wineries may buy from one bottle maker, barrel supplier or carrier and appear at the same exhibition, but those are external commonalities. An intercompany relationship needs a contract, disclosure from both parties or statutory information. Regional brand value also cannot be allocated by company or converted into market share.
Each company file records legal entity, plant, production licence, product range, recent vintages, filling line and statutory disclosures. A question about base-wine purchase or contract filling additionally requires both parties to confirm the item, volume, period and responsible person. A unilateral marketing item is not enough to draw a company link.
- A shared Yantai location proves no common vineyard, base wine, customer or filling line.
08 · Closing Yantai Procurement around One Bottle
Follow the parcel and vintage through channel arrival.
Yantai's advantage lies in close links among vineyards, estates, large wineries, packaging, testing and visitor experiences. Regional figures show resource density, history explains accumulation and company information offers contacts. A real order still resolves to one wine, one plant and one vintage or blend lot.
Selection begins with style, price band, channel, origin and label before analytical, sensory and stability comparison of samples. The approved sample is sealed, and production records link grapes or base wine, fermentation and blending, filling and finished testing. The transport trial uses the same closure, carton and route as the order.
Arrival review records breakage, leakage, temperature, wine condition, returns and rotation separately for hospitality, e-commerce, gifting and export. A new vintage triggers reassessment of fruit and style; a packaging change triggers another transport test. Two hundred-plus producers and sixty-plus estates provide choice, not a delivery guarantee for any one company.
- Sample, production lot and delivered bottle must retain one identity chain.
Sources and reading notes
Published regional totals cover 200+ production companies, 60+ estates and 250+ supporting businesses; the RMB 86.2 billion figure measures regional-brand value. These measures belong to neither Changyu, Weilong nor COFCO Great Wall and do not establish dealings among the three.
- Yantai commerce records from 2025 show more than 200 wine producers, over 60 wineries and more than 250 supply-chain companies.
- The same public record values the Yantai wine regional brand above CNY 86.2 billion and says it led comparable domestic regions for nine consecutive years.
