Xining Tibetan carpets

Xining carpets combine plateau fibres and traditional motifs with hand knotting, tufting and machine weaving for homes, hotels, public interiors and decorative art. Qinghai capacity and export figures describe regional context only.

Formation and regional foundations

Qinghai weaving traditions and wool resources formed the early base, while Xining development-zone firms, international fairs, machine weaving and export services broadened the product range. Inputs, spinning and dyeing, weaving, finishing and sales gradually formed a coordinated chain.

A Tibetan carpet takes its appearance from motif, colour, yarn and construction, while pile height, density, backing and finishing shape handle and durability. Hand knotting, tufting and machine weaving serve different spaces and price points and cannot share one acceptance method. Xining links traditional skills with modern production, but every order still resolves to material, process and a sealed sample.

Core geography: Qinghai wool and weaving skills, Xining design and production, and domestic or overseas interiors

Xining Carpet Production and Market Route

Design, Fibre, Dyeing, Weaving, Finishing, Packing and Installation

The flow does not imply shared motifs, workshops or orders among Shengyuan, Himalaya and Tibetan Sheep Group.

  • Use, size and motif design — Defines space, proportion, borders, colours, rights, seams and laying direction.
  • Wool and blended yarn — Checks fibre origin, fineness, strength, contamination, lot and storage.
  • Dyeing and colour management — Retains recipe, dye bath, colour variation, viewing light, fastness and redye history.
  • Knotting, tufting or machine weaving — Controls density, pile height, tension, edges, backing and dimensions by construction.
  • Washing, carving and grading — Assesses handle, lustre, flatness, shedding, odour, marks and repair.
  • Rolling, transport and floor installation — Manages moisture, compression, rolling direction, labels, unrolling, seams and care.

01 · Capacity, Export Value and Destinations Are Qinghai-Wide

The measures cannot become Xining or company performance.

A provincial carpet profile counts over ten participants and gives stated yearly capacity as 30 million square metres. Xining Customs figures put 2024 Qinghai carpet and floor-textile exports at about RMB 100 million across twenty-seven countries. Firm count and capacity describe the chain, whereas exports use another year and object.

Capacity is not annual output and cannot be divided among more than ten firms. Export value can include different constructions, fibres and price tiers, while twenty-seven destinations do not mean recurring demand in every market. Assigning all four measures to one firm would overstate both production and reach.

Industry comparison retains Qinghai geography, the 2023 or 2024 date and the carpet or floor-textile boundary. A company enquiry separately checks production site, construction, workload, available monthly stations and actual export documents. Company destinations require corresponding customs or customer evidence.

  • Capacity, actual production, export value and reach remain separate.

02 · A Shengyuan Custom Order Starts with Room Proportion and Source Artwork

Motif scaling changes knots, borders and cutting positions.

Qinghai industry information places Shengyuan in the carpet chain, and the Shengyuan site provides a Xining product and custom-service entry. Regional capacity is not Shengyuan output, and provincial destinations are not its customer reach. A project relies on the product, plant and quotation confirmed by Shengyuan.

A living room, corridor and hotel lobby differ in proportion, viewing distance, wear and seam needs. Reducing a motif can make fine lines impossible in the original knot structure, while enlargement can unbalance borders. Curved walls or irregular floors further alter cutting and edges.

A Shengyuan brief includes floor dimensions, furniture and doors, viewing direction, expected traffic, cleaning method, artwork rights and budget. The supplier returns a scaled drawing, colours, yarn, construction, pile, density and seam plan. Artwork and colour codes are fixed after sample approval and before production.

  • Dimensions, colours, construction and design rights are defined together.

03 · A Hand-Knotted Standard Cannot Endorse a Machine-Made Carpet

Similar names can hide different structures, densities and test objects.

The Qinghai chain includes hand and modern weaving, while GB/T 22768-2008 addresses hand-knotted Tibetan carpets and records Tibetan Sheep Group among its drafters. Standard scope and drafting participation are different facts. Drafting does not prove every Tibetan Sheep product compliant or cover machine-made goods.

Hand-knotting builds pile knot by knot on a warp-and-weft foundation, whereas machine weaving and tufting form the carpet differently. Density expression, reverse structure, repair method and dimensional stability can all differ. Applying hand-made terminology to machine goods leaves quotations and inspection without a common object.

The order first confirms hand-knotting, tufting or machine weaving from construction images, reverse sample and process description, then lists applicable standards and contract measures. Labels, certificates and test reports use one product name. Buyer sampling checks construction, material, dimensions and lot against the packed item.

  • Construction is identified before standards and acceptance items are selected.

04 · Traditional Motifs in Export Orders Need Clear Origin and Adaptation

Cultural description, design rights and commercial artwork are different concepts.

Qinghai carpet exports reached twenty-seven countries in 2024, while cultural authorities present Jiaya Tibetan weaving and related workshops. Export trade and heritage transmission can coexist. Market reach does not authorise arbitrary use of traditional motifs, and a heritage display is not a commercial licence for a company.

A customer may change colours, scale or composition of a traditional motif for a contemporary interior. Excessive alteration can remove cultural context, while direct copying of an existing work may involve individual or institutional rights. An exaggerated translated product story creates another trust risk.

The motif file identifies traditional origin or contemporary author, source file, permission term, territory, product class and allowed adaptation. Sample approval also confirms the public name and description. At order end, artwork is returned or restricted under the agreement rather than extended to another channel.

  • Every motif records provider, permission, changes and use scope.

05 · Colour, Pile Height and Density Need One Common Sample

A standard title and company display do not replace a production sample.

The Shengyuan site offers product and custom routes, while GB/T 22768-2008 defines a boundary for hand-knotted Tibetan carpets. A company can handle several product types, but the standard applies only to the relevant construction. A project still confirms material, construction, dimensions and tests item by item.

The same dye can show different lustre on wool, synthetic or blended yarn, and pile direction changes perceived colour. Higher density may sharpen a motif but alter weight, softness and lead time. A face photograph alone hides reverse knots, edges and local repair.

The sealed sample uses production yarn and actual construction and states viewing light, colour code, pile, density, dimensions, weight and allowed repair. Face, reverse and edge are approved together, with one sample retained by the supplier. Production sampling compares under the same light and orientation and judges deviations by affected area rather than vague whole-lot rejection.

  • The sealed sample fixes face, reverse, edge and handle together.

06 · Himalaya Exhibitor Status Is a Contact Route, Not Order Evidence

Exhibits, production capability and export documents need separate confirmation.

Qinghai industry information describes the carpet chain, and the 2025 DOMOTEX asia/CHINAFLOOR directory identifies Qinghai Himalaya Carpet and its exhibitor status. Participation places the firm in a market-contact setting. It discloses neither exhibit sales, current capacity nor cooperation with other Xining firms.

A show sample is usually selected for presentation and may not match production dimensions or packing. A verbal show quotation can omit material, taxes, minimum order and delivery terms. Ordering from booth photographs alone allows motif and quality boundaries to drift after the event.

After contacting Himalaya, the buyer obtains current company details, production site, specification, formal quotation and sample number. The show item and approved sample are compared with differences recorded, while material or construction changes receive a new price. Export orders also check origin, labels, packing and payment entity.

  • A post-show enquiry reconfirms entity, plant and sample revision.

07 · Fading, Moth Damage and Transit Creases Begin at Different Stages

Traditional craft value still needs material and logistics control.

Qinghai export figures show cross-border movement, while heritage information describes traditional weaving and workshops. Cultural value does not reduce exposure to light, moths, humidity and long transport. Storage, cleaning and use conditions also vary by destination.

Colour change may arise from dye fastness, lot variation or long sunlight; moth damage relates to fibre treatment and storage; tight or damp rolling causes creases and musty odour. The problems can appear together but require different specimens and timelines. One arrival photograph rarely identifies their origin.

Before shipment, the file retains fastness results, yarn lot, moisture condition, finished photographs and rolling method, with moisture and orientation controls in transit. An arrival exception records outer packing, humidity, unrolling time and site light. Disposition then separates cleaning, repair, replacement and user care.

  • Complaints separate dyeing, storage, packing and use environment.

08 · A Hotel-Lobby Trial Tests Design, Handle and Maintenance Together

A small installed area reveals problems earlier than a rendering.

Qinghai industry information provides the weaving-chain setting, while the Shengyuan site and Himalaya exhibitor directory offer two independent company routes. A hotel project may contact both for alternatives. Public information does not show joint production, shared motifs or unified service.

A lobby carpet must fit the interior while tolerating luggage wheels, entrance soil, cleaning equipment and concentrated traffic. Large pieces add seams, rolling, lift dimensions and night installation. A small swatch cannot represent flatness and maintenance after full installation.

The pilot uses a representative entrance or corner with production yarn, construction, backing and installation materials. After traffic, cleaning and stain-treatment cycles, it checks colour, shedding, edges, seams and recovery. Design and maintenance teams approve together before the remaining area proceeds.

  • Traffic, cleaning, seams and light enter one pilot.

Sources and reading notes

Annual capacity of 30 million square metres, more than ten chain firms, about RMB 100 million of 2024 exports and twenty-seven destinations all use the Qinghai provincial scope. Shengyuan, Himalaya and Tibetan Sheep Group are three verifiable company entries only; participation in drafting a standard is not current product certification.

  • Qinghai's carpet chain has more than ten firms and annual capacity of 30 million square metres; both are provincial industry measures.
  • In 2024, Qinghai carpet and floor-textile exports were about CNY 100 million across 27 countries.
