Xinghua special-alloy materials and products for marine equipment

Seawater pitting, fastener stress-corrosion or weld failure cannot be explained merely by saying stainless steel was used. Credible delivery links grade, heat number, cleanliness, heat treatment, surface condition, filler match and inspection results into a retrievable material history.

Formation and regional foundations

Dainan places alloy melting, rolling, drawing, welding-consumable and product firms near national testing and materials research platforms and close to Jingjiang ship and fastener demand. Proximity helps return specimens and failed parts, but demand matching does not replace class, standard or contract acceptance.

The value of a marine-equipment alloy is not the word special. After every change in shape and microstructure, the maker must still prove what the material is, what it experienced and which corrosion and load it suits. Dainan’s integrity is measured by the heat certificate being continued across firms.

Core geography: Centred on Dainan Town and Xinghua High-tech Zone, covering high-temperature, corrosion-resistant and precision alloys plus welding consumables, fasteners, tube and deeply processed products for offshore engineering, ships, offshore wind and other corrosive environments. Ordinary stainless trading, scrap recovery and general hardware are excluded.

Heat-lot responsibility chain from charge to marine component

Six nodes across chemistry, forming, heat treatment, finishing, welding and release

A heat number must survive splitting, cutting and subcontracting; filler lot and base-metal heat remain separately traceable.

  • Charge and alloying — Returns, pure metals and additions are weighed by lot against a locked target grade.
  • Melting and casting — Chemistry, degassing, inclusion control and heat number create the first evidence.
  • Forging, rolling and heat treatment — Reduction, thermal curve and sampling position follow the heat.
  • Drawing, tube and fasteners — Splitting, cutting, cold work and surface treatment create child lots.
  • Filler and procedure match — Base metal, filler, shielding and heat input jointly determine the weld.
  • Inspection and release — Dimensions, mechanical, corrosion and NDT results return to the heat record.

01 · Define medium, load and life first

Marine use is not a sufficiently precise grade.

Selection starts with seawater temperature, chloride, crevices, flow, cathodic protection and cleaning media. Splash, immersed and enclosed zones impose different corrosion conditions on the same assembly.

Fasteners also require preload, cyclic load, mating materials and removal interval. Static tensile strength alone misses stress-corrosion and galvanic risks.

The purchase specification places standard edition, grade, delivery condition, dimensions, surface, test frequency and certificate type on one page. A vague seawater-resistant claim cannot release material.

02 · The heat number begins at charging

Conforming chemistry is only the first gate.

Returns are segregated by origin, grade and contamination risk. Oil, copper-bearing contamination or mixed alloys can introduce hard-to-remove elements; the charge sheet must trace to weighing records.

Melting records sampling time, analyser, alloy additions and repeat results. Chemistry within a grade range is still judged against pitting, welding and heat-treatment goals, not a convenient average.

Degassing, deoxidation and inclusion control affect fatigue and welding. Ingot identity and head-tail position are retained because segregation and defect distribution can vary within one heat.

03 · Forming does more than reduce section

Temperature and reduction history decide what remains inside.

Furnace batch, soak, start and finish temperature and reduction ratio bind to the heat. Insufficient temperature may leave cracks; overheating can damage grain and surface.

Rolled bar, wire, strip and tube hollows receive child lots by coil or branch. Cropping, grinding and rework destinations are recorded so downstream retains material identity, not merely dimensions.

Ultrasonic, eddy-current or surface inspection depends on geometry and defect orientation. A pass at this stage does not cover defects introduced later by cold work, welding or machining.

04 · Heat treatment turns chemistry into usable structure

A furnace curve must belong to a specific material lot.

Loading arrangement, thermocouple position, time to temperature, soak and cooling medium form the full solution, ageing or annealing curve; the setpoint alone is insufficient.

Improper dwell can precipitate phases at grain boundaries and weaken local corrosion resistance; inadequate ageing can leave high-temperature or precision alloys short of strength or stability.

Hardness, tensile and any required impact or intergranular corrosion tests sample by heat and treatment lot. Re-treatment has approval, cycle limit and new results rather than overwriting the first record.

05 · Surface determines where seawater attacks first

Even corrosion-resistant grades suffer from iron contamination, scratches and crevices.

Drawing, straightening, machining and blasting tools shared with carbon steel can embed free iron. Segregated stations, brushes and lifting gear are more credible than a final cleaned note.

Before pickling, passivation or electropolishing, heat tint, scale, oil and machining damage are assessed. Rinse water, residual acid and drying are controlled afterwards; internal cavities require separate flow and drain verification.

Salt-spray reporting states solution, temperature, spray mode, specimen orientation, scribe and decision. Hours compare only like methods and cannot be converted into offshore life.

06 · Select filler with base metal and procedure

A weld is a new material, not the average of two plates.

Filler selection considers base grade, dilution, shielding gas, post-weld treatment, strength and corrosion margin. Solid and flux-cored wires or different flux systems with similar names are not interchangeable.

Procedure qualification records joint, passes, preheat, interpass temperature, heat input and specimen position. Welders work within the approved range; repair count and excavation depth enter weld history.

Base heat, filler lot, machine, welder, date and NDT ID link to one joint. Only then can field pitting or cracking be separated into material, process or environment causes.

07 · Fasteners and fittings change the material again

Cold work, threads and bending can introduce new risks.

Cold heading, drawing or thread rolling increases local strain. Hardness, grain flow, laps and residual stress are controlled; cut and rolled threads cannot be judged by dimensions alone.

Tube and fittings separately inspect weld, bend extrados, internal surface and heat-affected zone. Hydro, leak or NDT methods follow risk and retain calibration and blind-zone notes.

After splitting, permanent marks, tags or digital records preserve parent heat and child-lot relations. Packaging separates materials to prevent mixing in transport or site issue.

08 · Final release must be able to answer a failure

The certificate is not an attachment; it starts field judgement.

The release pack lists order, drawing revision, grade, heat, treatment lot, dimensions, surface, mechanical, corrosion, NDT and deviation approval. Any gap has an assigned owner.

Portable material identification can check key elements but cannot replace full chemistry, structure or heat-treatment evidence. Instrument, calibration, measurement point and surface preparation are retained.

If pitting, loosening or weld cracking appears, fracture and deposits are preserved before tracing marks to heat, processing and welding records. Conclusions separate design, material, workmanship and environment rather than ending with seawater is complex.
