Xin’an bearing manufacturing

Xin’an’s chain covers large slewing, wind and tunnel-boring bearings with ring forgings and rolling elements. As size grows, load distribution, heat-treatment distortion, raceway datum, assembly clearance and installation error amplify one another, so rated life cannot be compared without load spectrum, speed, lubrication and mounting conditions.

Formation and regional foundations

Aggregation began around 2009 and extended from finished bearings into forgings, rolling elements, heat treatment, production equipment and testing. Local supply shortens lead time, but each heat, ring and rolling-element lot still retains its own identity; “locally supplied” is not a quality record.

A spalled raceway or edge-loaded ring can be traced through steel heat, forging, heat treatment, grinding, assembly, sealing and mounting flange. Xin’an’s local value lies in whether cross-company records converge on one serial identity, not simply how close firms are.

Core geography: Centred on Luoxin Park of Xin’an Economic and Technological Development Zone, Luoyang, linking bearing steel and ring forgings, rolling elements, ring heat treatment, raceway machining, assembly, sealing, lubrication, testing and equipment integration

From material heat to field feedback

Six quality handoffs for a large bearing

Nodes show record and responsibility handoffs; routes vary by bearing type.

  • Load and interface baseline — Load spectrum, speed, temperature, life and machine interfaces form controlled inputs.
  • Steel and ring forgings — Heat, forging route, flow and NDT follow ring identity.
  • Heat treatment and rings — Case depth, structure, residual stress and distortion govern allowance.
  • Raceways and rolling elements — Geometry, surface integrity, size grouping and lot matching are separately controlled.
  • Assembly, sealing and lubrication — Clearance, preload, seal friction and grease replenishment shape operation.
  • Testing and field feedback — Rig results, installation measurements and service timeline return to serial identity.

01 · Load spectrum before bearing size

Rated life returns to machine interfaces and duty.

Large-bearing design begins with the load spectrum, not outside diameter. Wind main, yaw and pitch, tunnel-boring main and offshore slewing bearings see different axial, radial, overturning, shock and idle conditions, so rated life belongs to the actual duty.

The same turbine rating can use different drivetrain layouts, changing interfaces, preload and lubrication. An enquiry saying only “bearing for a certain megawatt class” does not let a supplier judge raceway curvature, clearance or seal suitability.

Design review brings extreme and equivalent loads, speed distribution, temperature, contamination and maintenance interval together. One interface revision drives calculations, material specifications and testing so later changes do not remain isolated on one drawing.

02 · Ring forgings preserve material identity

Heat, flow, temperature and allowance set the ring starting point.

Ring forgings establish material continuity. Steel heat, cut weight, upsetting and piercing passes, ring-rolling temperature and forging ratio follow the ring number; acceptable chemistry alone does not guarantee flow or cleanliness for raceway fatigue.

Extra-large rings see substantial temperature differences from furnace to measurement. If hot sizing, post-normalising measurement and room-temperature machining use different datums, allowance can vanish on one side while remaining excessive on the other.

Receiving checks permanent ring marking, material certificate, ultrasonic results and dimensional map. Repair, weld build-up or repeat heat treatment changes material condition and requires explicit approval before ring machining.

03 · Heat treatment binds properties to distortion

Case depth and geometry change must be visible before grinding.

Ring heat treatment changes hardness, structure, residual stress and geometry together. Furnace support, heating uniformity, quench-scan path and temper count belong to each ring; an automatic temperature trace alone is insufficient.

Induction-hardened raceways require case depth, transition zone and any soft-zone location checked. A soft zone aligned with a highly loaded area changes life assessment; a claimed seamless hardening process also needs continuous hardness and microstructure evidence.

Post-treatment roundness and flatness determine grinding allowance. If distortion appears only at final inspection, grinding may rescue size by cutting through the hardened layer, so interstage measurement precedes finishing.

04 · Raceway precision is more than one dimension

Geometry, texture and grinding damage leave separate records.

Raceway machining controls geometry and surface integrity separately. Roundness, waviness, groove form and roughness affect load distribution, while burn, scoring and microcracks can initiate spalling; dimensional conformity does not replace surface inspection.

As diameter grows, machine thermal drift, foundation vibration and probe extension become larger influences. Reports state temperature compensation, support, measurement path and filtering or supplier and customer may judge the same ring differently.

Tools, wheels and dressing parameters link to ring identity. Inferring stability only from final size misses local waviness or burn introduced by a wheel change or machine restart.

05 · Assembly clearance anticipates installation

Rolling elements, seals, grease and interfaces shape operation.

Rolling elements, cages, seals and grease receive lot and size-group checks before assembly. A large bearing uses many rollers or balls, and a few from another group can alter load sharing and clearance.

Assembly clearance is not simply better when smaller. Transport position, temperature difference, interference fit, machine deformation and operating heat change running clearance, so the factory value corresponds to installation calculations and site measurement.

Seal selection balances slurry, salt fog, dust, temperature and speed. Tighter sealing may add friction and heat and change grease replenishment, so seal, grease and interval are reviewed as one system.

06 · Testing answers failure risks

Material, component, rig and field evidence have distinct limits.

A rig test answers contract risks rather than chasing an impressive duration. Slow heavy bearings may track torque, temperature, seal leakage, clearance and raceway damage, while faster units add vibration spectrum and lubrication condition.

Extra-large bearings rarely reproduce full-life duty before shipment. Material, component, prototype and field monitoring can be combined, but each evidence layer has a stated boundary; one scaled test is not whole-machine life.

A test anomaly returns to ring, rolling-element, lubricant and assembly records. Replacing the failed part and continuing without debris, contact-pattern and temperature-timeline analysis loses the chance to establish the failure mechanism.

07 · Transport and installation remain in the quality chain

Flange, preload and arrival condition determine field load.

Transport and installation extend the manufacturing process. Lift points, support, preservation, rust protection and shock records affect arrival condition, while flange flatness and bolt preload determine whether the bearing carries load as designed.

Post-installation edge loading may arise from foundation, interface, bolt sequence or the ring itself. Supplier and OEM jointly preserve flange measurements, clearance, tightening curves and initial vibration at handover to avoid later argument without evidence.

Field feedback traces back to the original heat and grinding records. A timeline of temperature, grease, vibration and gear or raceway observations lets service experience improve the next heat-treatment, machining and assembly lot.

08 · One serial identity unifies local supply

Multiple suppliers ultimately deliver one reviewable genealogy.

Xin’an local supply can shorten lead time for forgings, rolling elements and finished bearings, but contracts still define responsibility by tier. Forging certificates, heat reports, grinding data and assembly tests come from different parties and converge on the final serial number.

Change control covers steel mill, forging route, heat equipment, machine program, rolling-element source and seal material. Any change affecting load sharing, case depth or lubrication is assessed for first-article or added testing before delivery.

Mature delivery is more than a pass stamp; it is a reviewable part genealogy. The buyer receives the relationships among drawing revision, material and special-process records, key dimensions, assembly values, tests and installation instructions.
