Wenxi magnesium materials and deep processing

Wenxi material shows three technical directions: Yinguang Huasheng develops wrought magnesium including ZM60M; Bada Magnesium is tied to a large semisolid injection-moulding industrialisation project; and Shanxi Zhenxin is described from raw-material smelting to finished processing with a die-casting direction. Shanxi also reports 16 producers, 150-plus sales firms and a 30% national deep-processing-capacity measure; those statistics do not establish project status.

Formation and regional foundations

After reduction, refining and alloy melting, magnesium branches. Wrought material is organised by billet form, temper and forging, rolling or extrusion window; semisolid injection moulding revolves around feedstock, rheology, tooling and equipment; die castings focus on melt protection, filling, porosity and finishing. Scrap return adds chemistry and origin limits, so the routes cannot be collapsed into one “deep processing” step.

A Wenxi magnesium project first faces high temperature, oxidation-prone melt and dust hazards before lightweighting claims. The same grade can behave differently with supply condition, impurities and downstream forming, and planned expansion is not commissioned capacity. Broken links among melt, billet, tooling trial and returned scrap make component problems hard to locate.

Core geography: A Wenxi chain connecting dolomite, primary magnesium, alloy casting, die casting, recycling and lightweight end uses

Wenxi magnesium: why three routes follow the melt

Five gates for grade, billet, semisolid process and die-cast traceability

Nodes express technical routes and do not imply shared melting, tooling or customer programmes among companies.

  • Reduction and refining — Source and impurity limits for dolomite, ferrosilicon, primary magnesium or returns enter the melt record.
  • Alloy grade and billet — Chemistry, melt, ingot or billet form and temper establish the starting point for wrought processing.
  • Semisolid injection trial — Feedstock form, temperature window, machine tonnage, tool and part wall jointly undergo industrialisation trials.
  • Die casting and finishing — Melt protection, filling, porosity control, machining and finishing define the die-cast part.
  • Melt-part-return register — Grade, shot, inspection result and return ratio remain linked to locate chemistry or porosity anomalies.

01 · Magnesium cannot simply be opened: oxidation, moisture and melt safety

Primary metal, alloy ingot, chips, returns and burning residue have different handling boundaries.

Wenxi magnesium materials range from primary metal, alloy ingots and extrusion billets to die-casting returns, gates, chips and treated scrap, with very different forms and risks. Block alloy oxidises; fine chips, dust and high-area returns ignite more readily. Wet tools, undried charge or closed containers entering melt can cause violent spatter, so receiving, storage, preheating and charging are separated by form.

Ordinary water application can worsen a magnesium fire through heat, gas and spatter, and aluminium-melt tools may not suit magnesium. Protective atmosphere, flux or cover method must fit alloy, furnace, environment and applicable safety and environmental requirements; there is no universal magnesium melting recipe. Mixing oxide dross with clean returns also affects safety, metal recovery and later chemistry.

Receiving segregates primary metal, alloy ingot, clean block return, oily chips, wet stock, dross and unknown mixtures, recording grade, lot, process source, surface treatment and storage time. Dry or preheated condition is checked before charge; closed and heavily oxidised items do not enter directly. The melt area keeps applicable extinguishing medium, isolation tools, protective equipment and evacuation routes available and drills at the real furnace.

  • Block metal, chips, returns and dross use different handling.
  • Wet stock, tools and closed items do not enter magnesium melt.
  • Melt emergency plans fit actual furnace, material and rules.

02 · From dolomite to crude magnesium: calcination, briquetting and vacuum reduction

Ore chemistry, calcine activity, ferrosilicon ratio, retort sealing and temperature govern reduction.

A Wenxi primary-magnesium route can begin with dolomite crushing, sizing and calcination to calcine, followed by grinding, proportioning and briquetting with ferrosilicon and other reduction inputs. Briquettes enter retorts for a controlled vacuum-temperature cycle; magnesium vapour condenses as crude metal before refining. Ore impurities, calcination loss, activity, briquette strength, loading and vacuum sealing all affect reduction.

Uniform colour or temperature at calciner exit does not replace activity, residual carbon dioxide, size and batch uniformity. Calcine rehydration makes time and storage before briquetting important. Local retort leakage, uneven heating or condenser condition can change one retort’s recovery, crude crystal and impurity, which a furnace average can hide.

Raw-lot records source, chemistry, size and calcination load, followed by specified activity or loss checks and dry storage. Briquetting links actual calcine, ferrosilicon and additions to a batch, while every retort records charge, vacuum, temperature, time, condenser and crude yield. An abnormal retort retains crude and residue samples so chemistry, remainder and equipment distinguish material, process and leakage causes.

  • Dolomite, calcine, briquette, retort and crude metal are coded in sequence.
  • Calcine activity and moisture protection affect reduction.
  • Furnace averages cannot hide one retort’s leak or temperature anomaly.

03 · Crude magnesium is not an alloy ingot: refining, alloying and casting

Refining, alloy recovery, melt protection and casting temperature define the ingot or billet.

Crude or primary magnesium enters refining for melting, dross removal, chemistry adjustment, refining or settling before casting as primary ingot, alloy ingot or extrusion billet. Aluminium, zinc, manganese or other additions have recoveries affected by purity, oxidation, temperature, addition and holding. Surface protection, skimming, transfer and pouring can introduce oxide films or slag inherited by later ingot, extrusion or die casting.

One conforming pre-pour sample does not rule out segregation, oxide entrainment, cooling or contamination during casting. A smooth ingot cannot exclude internal gas, inclusions or coarse structure. Grade changeover can carry residual metal from furnace, launder and tools, and one start sample cannot represent chemistry and cleanliness through the whole pour.

The refining batch links charge source, crude or primary lots, actual alloy additions, temperature, protection and skimming, with sample times before and after adjustment. Ingot or mould IDs follow casting sequence with temperature, launder cleaning, transition metal and anomalies. Billets or demanding alloys check beginning, middle and end chemistry, macrostructure, inclusions or required structure, while grade-change cleaning and transition quantity are physically confirmed.

  • Crude metal becomes alloy ingot or billet through refining and casting.
  • A pre-pour sample does not cover segregation, oxidation and later contamination.
  • Grade change confirms furnace, launder and transition quantity separately.

04 · Extrusion is read at the die exit; die casting inside the cavity

Billet preheat and extrusion speed answer different questions from melt cleanliness, shot curves and die temperature.

Magnesium extrusion preheats billet, pushes it through a die, then pulls, cools, straightens, cuts, ages and machines profiles. Die casting meters protected melt into a chamber and fills a cavity through slow, fast and intensification phases before cooling, ejection and trimming. Extrusion emphasises flow, texture, section and length consistency; die casting emphasises fill, venting, pressure and thermal balance.

Extrusion press tonnage alone does not establish every alloy and section; billet, ratio, wall, die, speed and post-treatment matter. A sound die-cast surface does not exclude gas, oxide film, cold shut or shrinkage. Vacuum, shot speed and intensification settings are only machine parameters unless tied to cavity, actual waveforms, temperature and internal inspection.

An extrusion first-off links billet, temperature, die, speed and product ends, then samples section, straightness, surface, structure or mechanics along length while separating butt and transition. A die-cast first-off retains melt heat, temperature, cavity, die temperature, lubrication, vacuum, shot curve, cooling and required internal checks. Tool, runner or window changes repeat the relevant route’s first-off; the two forming reports never substitute for each other.

  • Extrusion and die casting use different feed, tools and records.
  • Press tonnage is not all section and alloy capability.
  • Die-casting settings map to cavity, actual curves and internal quality.

05 · In Wenxi, ingot, extrusion and semisolid moulding still need separate verification

Three public leads fall at different forming stages and cannot be assembled into one shared line.

A Shanxi Provincial Tax Service account of Wenxi magnesium prints the full legal names Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium, Shanxi Bada Magnesium and Shanxi Zhenxin Magnesium. It assigns wrought-alloy research, semisolid injection-moulding industrialisation and smelting-to-finished-processing linkage to the corresponding enterprises. The three technical fragments show variety in Wenxi, but their owners cannot be exchanged or merged into one operating line.

Choose the door from the purchased form. Primary metal or ingot states grade, chemistry limits, inclusions, ingot form, lot and sampling; extrusion adds billet condition, tool, section, heat treatment and mechanical sample location; semisolid or die-cast parts add drawing, cavity, internal quality, machining and surface requirements. Use the corresponding Chinese legal name and request plant, invoicing entity and in-house versus outsourced stages, without transferring a reply between companies.

A tax-service case, government visit and standards project perform different evidentiary jobs. Research or industrialisation reporting does not publish every grade, line, customer or current output; a visit is not order or quality endorsement; being a standards drafter does not mean every product follows a project still under development. Public material can bound the question and document date, but it creates no ownership, supply or technology-licence relation among enterprises.

  • Each technical fact remains tied to one legal entity.
  • Ingot, extrusion and semisolid parts begin with different specifications.
  • Visits and standards roles cannot imply current line status.

06 · Sixteen, 150-plus, 30 percent and a four-stage chain

Producers, sellers, deep-processing capacity and chain stages are not substitutes.

A Shanxi investment account of Wenxi reports 16 producers and more than 150 sales enterprises, states a 30 percent national share of magnesium deep-processing capacity, and describes a four-stage industrial chain. A 2025 MIIT appendix separately confirms the formal Wenxi cluster and administrative area. The figures cover different objects, and the national list does not remeasure them.

Producers and sellers can be related, agents, different legal persons or mixed businesses, so their counts do not create 166-plus independent manufacturers. Thirty percent refers to deep-processing capacity, not primary output, sales, exports or market share, and cannot be assigned to Yinguang, Bada or Zhenxin. A four-stage chain explains industrial organisation but does not mean every producer spans all stages.

Record actor type, product scope, unit, date and geography, preserving the full wording national share of deep-processing capacity. A later output, revenue or single-product value receives its own definition rather than being compared with capacity. An enterprise enquiry then confirms its actual chain stages, grades, processes, inspection, present status and delivery scope.

  • Sixteen producers and 150-plus sellers are not simply added.
  • Thirty percent is a national deep-processing-capacity measure.
  • A four-stage chain does not mean every firm covers it all.

07 · Identity of a lightweight part: heat, tool, machining and corrosion environment

Low density is a design entrance; delivery still faces load, joining, surface and service.

A lightweight magnesium-part drawing needs more than shape and mass: grade, cast or extruded condition, heat treatment, critical walls, mechanics, dimensions, surface, dissimilar-metal contact and service environment. Die castings may need sealing faces, drilling and inserts; extrusions may be bent, cut, welded or fastened. Each downstream operation changes surface, stress, local geometry or corrosion boundary.

Reducing one part’s mass does not establish system strength, stiffness, fatigue, crash or vibration. When magnesium meets steel, aluminium or carbon materials, potential, isolation, coating, sealing, drainage and fasteners govern corrosion. A treated coupon passing an environment test does not show equal protection at real cut edges, threads, inserts and assembly gaps. The coupon and assembly boundaries must remain distinct.

A first-off links source heat or billet, die cavity or extrusion die, heat treatment, machining, surface treatment and assembly ID. Dimension and mechanical specimens record location; internal checks target heavy, transition, sealing and load zones; corrosion work uses real couples, fasteners, coating damage and drainage. Installed torque, isolators, surface and service environment remain available so a failure can return to a specific Wenxi heat and tool.

  • A lightweight part needs grade, condition, mechanics, surface and environment.
  • A coating coupon does not represent dissimilar-metal assembly corrosion.
  • Part identity connects heat, tool, machining, surface and assembly.

08 · Recycled magnesium is not one bin: grade, surface treatment and chip cleanliness

Clean gates, machining chips, coated scrap and dross need separate recovery routes.

Deep processing creates runners, risers, rejected castings, extrusion ends, saw chips, milling chips, grinding fines, treated scrap and dross. Clean blocks of known grade may return at a controlled ratio. Oily chips, mixed metals, coatings or salts need degreasing, sorting, pretreatment or a dedicated route. Dross can contain metal but is not equivalent to clean return because oxidation, salts and contamination differ.

Counting all magnesium waste by gross weight as recycled ignores metal recovery, processing loss and residue destination. Untreated oily chips can create fumes, safety and melt-cleanliness problems. Similar-looking chips from different grades can push remelt chemistry out of range. Higher return ratios require attention to trace elements and oxide films as well as principal elements.

Die casting, extrusion and machining use grade- and source-specific return containers with visible status, never an unidentified spare box. Chip records cover oil, foreign material, liquid removal or drying and storage; blocks retain source-part lot. Each heat separately records primary and return masses, while recovery uses net metal and destination rather than gross input. New return source or ratio is verified in a separate heat for chemistry, cleanliness and product performance.

  • Blocks, chips, coated scrap and dross use different routes.
  • Gross input does not replace net metal and destination.
  • Trial a changed scrap stream in its own melt.

Sources and reading notes

Magnesium return is segregated by grade, surface treatment, oil-water contamination and originating operation; die-cast runners, machining chips and coated scrap do not enter one bin. Before remelting, cleanliness, dryness, weight and addition ratio are confirmed and the return lot links to the alloy heat. Extrusion, semisolid parts and conventional die castings also do not share one internal-quality decision.

  • Magnesium producers reported by Shanxi: 16.
  • Magnesium sales firms reported by Shanxi: 150+.
  • Reported share of national magnesium deep-processing capacity: 30%.
  • Chain stages summarised by the government account: 4.
