Tangshan Lubei intelligent special-purpose robots

Lubei intelligent special-purpose robots serve civilian firefighting, inspection, welding, rail maintenance, material handling and general automation through robot bodies, vision, controls, integration, shared production and service.

Formation and regional foundations

Tangshan steel, equipment and rail sites created sustained automation demand, allowing Kaiyuan, Baichuan, Yinglai and peers to accumulate engineering experience. Demonstration, shared production and policy expanded the supplier network into a major Lubei concentration by the end of 2024.

A special-purpose robot is defined not by appearance but by work in heat, dust, difficult geometry, confined space or repetitive hazardous tasks. The robot body is only part of a system; tooling, vision, process, controls, safeguards and operators determine success. Lubei concentrates builders and integrators, yet real customer parts and site cycle prove the project.

Lubei Robot Project Delivery Chain

Task, Samples, Mechanics, Vision, Controls, Safety, Trials and Service

The project route does not imply shared algorithms, plants, customers or service duties among Kaiyuan, Yinglai and Baichuan.

  • Task and site boundary — Defines parts, environment, cycle, quality, human interaction, downtime and maintenance space.
  • Samples, fixtures and end tooling — Controls datums, location, tolerance, gripping, torch, sensors, changeover and wear parts.
  • Robot body and motion planning — Checks payload, reach, speed, repeatability, access, collision and cable routing.
  • Vision, localisation and process control — Calibrates cameras, lighting, coordinates, algorithm revision, path correction and process settings.
  • Safety system and site integration — Verifies guarding, scanning, emergency stops, interlocks, access, logistics and manual takeover.
  • Continuous trials and long-term service — Records yield, cycle, false stops, changeover, spares, recovery and shift variation.

01 · The 222 Firms Are Tangshan-Wide; About 200 Belong to Lubei

Firm count, zone revenue and the provincial list cannot be combined.

Tangshan high-tech information gives 222 robot-related firms citywide at the end of 2024, including about 200 in the Lubei high-tech zone with RMB 7.3 billion in main-business revenue. Hebei's 2024 characteristic-cluster list separately names Lubei intelligent special-purpose robots and several firms including Baichuan. City count, zone measures and listed companies form different sets.

Robot-related firms may cover bodies, parts, vision, software, integration and service, so RMB 7.3 billion cannot be averaged across about 200 firms. The provincial list names selected companies rather than a complete register. The 222 and about 200 also overlap geographically and cannot be added.

Industry comparison labels 222 as Tangshan citywide and about 200 firms and RMB 7.3 billion as Lubei high-tech zone at the end of 2024. Company candidates are separately checked for entity, products, plant, staff and cases. Cluster context does not enter a robot project's cycle, yield or capacity commitment.

  • Geography, year and economic measure remain separate.

02 · A Special-Purpose Robot Starts with Hazardous Work and Quality Problems

The task to be replaced is defined before robot and algorithm selection.

Lubei cluster information spans firefighting, inspection, welding, rail maintenance and industrial automation, while Tangshan policy addresses anchor and related firms and innovation platforms. The range is too broad for one generic robot. Each project returns to a specific personnel hazard, process defect or throughput constraint.

Inspection in heat may need thermal protection and imaging, dusty work emphasises sealing and cleaning, and a confined route limits size and turning. Welding automation responds to joint preparation, fit-up variation and spatter. A goal of unmanned operation alone cannot define sensing, end tooling or safeguards.

The requirement stage captures a full work cycle and records part family, environment, manual actions, cycle, defects, downtime and safety events. Normal and worst-case samples are supplied for integration tests. The automation boundary states remaining manual tasks, takeover and post-failure state.

  • Site video, real parts and failure samples enter the requirement together.

03 · Baichuan Shared-Factory Annual Capacity Is Not an Order Guarantee

Platform capacity still needs a model, process and schedule match.

Lubei cluster information describes a robot concentration, while the Baichuan shared-production platform publishes annual capacity of 2,000 units and a service network. The 2,000-unit figure belongs to that platform, not Lubei total output, and cannot be assigned to Kaiyuan or Yinglai. It does not state currently available capacity for a customer model.

Different robots require different welding, machining, assembly, wiring, software loading and system tests, with very different labour content. A shared factory also changes fixtures, programs and quality documents. If several projects reach final assembly together, nominal annual capacity does not explain one delivery date.

Before using the Baichuan platform, the customer supplies the bill of materials, route, special equipment, software revision, inspection plan and volume pattern. The platform returns stations, outsourcing, staff, schedule and quality duty. Actual hours and rework on the first unit determine later volume rather than a proportion of 2,000 units.

  • A customer project checks actual stations, fixtures, staff and workload.

04 · Yinglai Machine Vision Must First Solve Light, Coordinates and Part Variation

Laboratory recognition does not directly represent industrial stability.

The Hebei list confirms the Lubei special-purpose robot cluster and selected firms, while the Yinglai site offers machine-vision, robot-integration and local-team routes. The provincial list does not prove an Yinglai algorithm, and the company page gives no recognition rate or cycle for the target cell. Actual site data must verify the project.

Metal glare, weld fumes, dust, oil and part temperature alter images, while fixture shift changes coordinates. An algorithm stable on selected images can fail on scratches, mixed parts or partial occlusion. A slightly loose camera mount also creates long-term calibration drift.

An Yinglai test set includes normal, boundary, defect and disturbance samples collected across shifts and lighting. Acceptance records misses, false calls, processing time and robot-correction error rather than one aggregate accuracy. The site establishes a calibration artefact, check frequency and version rollback.

  • Calibration and acceptance cover shifts, surfaces and worst-case parts.

05 · Configuration Control Matters More than Screen Count in Shared Production

Hardware, software and process revisions must map to every unit.

Tangshan policy supports the robot chain and innovation platforms, while the Baichuan shared factory provides a multi-project production setting. Shared resources can improve utilisation but increase configuration-mix risk. Public platform information does not say every customer uses the same controls or quality flow.

Under one enclosure, controller, drive, sensor and program revisions can differ. A wrong software load may boot normally yet execute the wrong path, while a board replacement can mismatch parameter backups. Unsynchronised paper labels and system records carry the problem to the customer site.

Shared production locks approved materials, software package, parameters, tools and tests to the serial number and validates model and revision before download. Rework creates a new configuration record and repeats affected tests. Before shipment, the live-machine configuration is compared with nameplate and handover files.

  • Serial number links materials, software, parameters, tests and rework.

06 · Kaiyuan Welding Robots Must Hold the Weld through Fit-Up Variation

Teaching one ideal sample does not cover production joints and gaps.

Lubei cluster information includes welding robots in the industry structure, while the robot demonstration centre identifies Tangshan Kaiyuan, its address and civilian welding-automation capability. Regional revenue is not Kaiyuan performance. The company entry also does not prove stable welding of a particular part.

Production parts vary in groove angle, root gap, mismatch and surface condition, while fixture heat distortion moves the joint. A fixed taught path can miss the seam, and vision or touch sensing has a limited correction range. Higher speed that harms fusion and profile only creates defects faster.

A Kaiyuan project defines fit-up tolerance with real parts, establishes datums and access through the fixture and then develops sensing, path and welding settings. Trials cover minimum and maximum gaps and record weld quality, cycle, spatter and repair. Parts outside the correction range are stopped before entering the cell.

  • Path, process and fixture jointly handle worst-case fit-up.

07 · A Vision-Robot Failure Must Not Return Hazardous Motion to People

Misrecognition, communication loss and intervention need controlled states.

The provincial list establishes Lubei's special-purpose robot industry, and Yinglai information presents vision and robot-integration routes. Industry and company scope do not replace a workcell risk assessment. Even with correct recognition, robot speed, payload and human interaction can create hazards.

When a camera loses the part, a system may stop, hold the last coordinates or request confirmation, each with different risk. An operator entering a guard to clear a false call can face sudden motion if production remains recoverable. Network latency can also leave a remote view behind the real cell.

The risk review defines safe states after lost vision, coordinate excursion, communication loss and software fault. Emergency stops, gate locks, scanners and safe speed receive independent tests, and access rights limit program restart. Energy is isolated before entry, and reset resumes from a controlled position.

  • Safety functions are validated independently of recognition and production software.

08 · Close a Lubei Robot Delivery around One Weld Seam

Part, fixture, vision, process and safety are proven in one pilot.

Lubei cluster information provides company and product context, Tangshan policy describes the chain and platform direction, and Kaiyuan information offers a welding-automation company route. The three can support an industrial welding pilot. Cluster scale and policy support do not shorten commissioning automatically.

The pilot selects a recurring representative part with complete defect data and fixes drawings, material, joint and fit-up range. The supplier uses production samples to establish fixture, access, sensing, path and welding settings. Safety and production software are accepted in parallel rather than adding safety after trials.

Continuous trials record yield, cycle, sensing corrections, false stops, repairs, changeover and recovery and compare shifts. Causes are separated among part, fixture, vision, process and operation. New joints and materials follow only after the representative weld remains stable.

  • The part family expands only after stable production of one representative.
