Shenzhen Pingshan automotive-parts manufacturing equipment
A battery electrode begins by dispersing powders into slurry, metering it onto fast-moving foil, then drying, calendering and slitting. Viscosity drift, cross-web thickness variation or tension disturbance accumulates into cell variation. Pingshan equipment firms turn these process variables into repeatable machine actions.
Formation and regional foundations
Pingshan’s vehicle, traction-battery and component base provides dense validation settings, drawing specialist equipment firms close to process development and line introduction. The cluster covers mixing, coating, assembly and inspection machines used to manufacture those products; vehicle and battery makers are users, not automatically equipment suppliers.
A slurry that looks uniform in a mixer may not flow identically across a coating die, and straight foil in an oven may still develop uneven drying stress. Pingshan equipment must align material, mechanics, control and measurement on one timeline at the customer site.

How Pingshan equipment builders and customer sites exchange process results
Material trials establish viscosity, thickness or assembly windows; builders manufacture and tune equipment before customers validate it with real feed, cycle and environment. Problem data returns to mechanical and control design without implying a fixed supply relationship.
- Material and process trials — Slurry rheology, coating windows or assembly forces form machine inputs.
- Machine mechanical and control design — Mixing, dies, web rolls, stations and measurement are combined into equipment.
- Build and factory tuning — Geometry, motion, unloaded and surrogate-material tests prove the machine itself.
- Customer-site introduction — Real materials, utilities, environment and adjacent steps enter linked commissioning.
- Production ramp and feedback — Cycle, yield, maintenance and changeover determine sustained capability.
01 · Uniform slurry is more than long mixing time
Agglomeration, heat and charging sequence change rheology.
Traction-battery slurry combines active material, conductive additive, binder and solvent with very different surface and density. A high-surface-area conductive additive can alter local electronic pathways through minor agglomeration. Charging order affects agglomerate coating, shear breaks clusters while heating the batch, and vacuum deaeration changes apparent density. One acceptable viscosity point does not prove the top, bottom and circulation line share the same dispersion state.
Longer mixing can reduce some agglomerates but raises energy, wear and temperature, and excessive shear may change some binder structures. Residue on vessel walls and impellers can cross-contaminate a product change. At scale, local shear from a laboratory impeller does not copy by vessel-volume ratio. Power density, circulation count, temperature and powder-liquid contact history need preservation rather than one fixed rotational speed.
Before transferring a formulation to new equipment, record torque, temperature, vacuum and circulation flow by charging stage, sampling different vessel heights and transfer outlet. Thixotropic recovery during rest changes viscosity again during storage and transfer. Compare viscosity curves, coarse-particle tail and solids before setting the endpoint. Initial scale-up should also observe filter pressure and coating defects because residual agglomerates often emerge first at the slot and wet film.
- Judge dispersion through spatial consistency of size, viscosity and solids.
02 · The die must turn flow into a straight cross-web profile
Stable inlet pressure does not guarantee uniform cross-web loading.
Slurry enters a coating die, distributes through internal channels and exits a slot as wet film. A die-lip temperature gradient changes local viscosity and creates variation at equal mechanical gap. Channel resistance, slot gap, lip straightness and viscoelasticity shape cross-web flow. Stable pump pressure can coexist with loading differences from temperature or geometry, while edges remain vulnerable to neck-in or heavy bands.
Leaving all cross-web variation to mechanical adjustment creates many empirical settings at product changeover. As the filter loads, pump-pressure variation transfers into wet-film stability. Pump-pressure control alone cannot see local channel imbalance. Die design should establish a base distribution from rheology and width, with online gauging making limited corrections. If slurry temperature or solids leave the window, further slot adjustment can damage lips and hide the material cause.
Die trials can measure inlet pressure and cross-web wet and dry profiles at several speeds and flows, retaining the location and magnitude of each adjustment. Coating starts, stops and splices need separate scrap length and restabilisation criteria. At formulation change, confirm viscosity curve and temperature before deciding on cleaning, shims or channel modification. Production should synchronise gauge anomalies with pump, filter pressure and die temperature rather than chase thickness alone.
- Put flow channels, slot, viscosity and speed into one metering relationship.
03 · Web tension connects the entire coating line
Any speed mismatch among unwind, oven and rewind acts on thin foil.
Copper or aluminium foil passes from unwind through coating, oven, traction and rewind in separate tension zones. Web thermal expansion in the oven changes the prior speed balance among tension zones. Roll diameter changes continuously, and drying shrinks the coating; small errors wrinkle, steer or stretch thin foil. Load cells, dancers and drive response must cooperate, while roll parallelism also shapes cross-web behaviour.
Higher tension may suppress steering but stretch foil, disturb wet film or create edge cracks. Roll contamination or local wear creates periodic tension and surface defects every revolution. Lower tension protects material while allowing oven airflow to move the web. Settings depend on speed, roll diameter, foil gauge and coating state. A line tuned during low-speed threading does not represent high-speed steady work, ramps or roll changes.
Linked commissioning should record tension, roll speed, dancer position and steering correction by zone through acceleration, steady speed, deceleration and splice. Incorrect taper tension creates different compaction and slip in inner and outer layers. Run representative coating at different diameters and inspect edges, wrinkles and winding hardness. If one zone remains unstable after tuning, measure roll alignment, bearing drag and oven airflow rather than leave a mechanical issue to control compensation.
- Design by tension zone and roll diameter rather than one setpoint.
04 · Drying determines what happens inside the coating
A dry-looking surface may hide migration, cracking or residual solvent.
As wet coating enters a multi-zone oven, solvent evaporation, binder migration and particle rearrangement occur together. Evaporation rate also changes with inlet-air humidity, making seasonal condition relevant. Heating too fast can skin the surface and trap solvent, while insufficient later duty leaves residue. Nozzle uniformity, exhaust and line speed set heat and mass transfer; an oven setpoint is not coating temperature.
Raising line speed shortens residence. Zone leakage and recirculation can make actual oven airflow differ from fan settings. Compensating only with higher temperature can change porosity and binder distribution and later affect mechanical and electrochemical behaviour. Equipment capability should be stated as a stable window for a formulation, loading and residual requirement rather than maximum speed alone. Energy use also depends on exhaust reuse and solvent-safety limits.
Process validation can measure zone air temperature, velocity, exhaust concentration and coating temperature, then sample residual solvent and peel strength by position. Backpressure in solvent recovery can also alter exhaust and safe concentration. Create zone recipes for speed changes rather than raising all heat. With flammable solvent, prove concentration monitoring, interlocks and shutdown purge; an energy-saving change is adopted only after safety ventilation and product quality both pass.
- Construct the drying curve from temperature, airflow, residence and exhaust.
05 · Assembly equipment must control force and energy
An in-position signal does not prove a reliable joint.
Automotive and battery assembly includes press fitting, tightening, laser joining, dispensing and positioning. Lot dimensional drift in press-fit parts can shift the entire equipment curve. A force-displacement curve shows interference and tilt, tightening needs torque and angle, and laser joining depends on focus, power, speed and surface. Completion of motion ends the process but does not establish a reliable joint without process signals and product inspection.
One threshold can merge different faults. A contaminated laser protective window lowers energy at the workpiece despite unchanged set power. High press force may arise from dimension, lubrication or misalignment; normal laser energy can still create pores on a contaminated surface. An algorithm judging one total value leaves traceability with little diagnostic value. Curve shape, critical intervals and workpiece preconditions provide stronger separation.
Develop a new station with accepted and known-defect parts to establish process windows, sensor range, sampling rate and decision intervals. Dispensing-material temperature and open time change the pressure and path the machine must control. Confirm fixture datum and part identity before motion, then correlate process signals with sectioning, pull, leak or electrical samples after joining. Program revisions need version and validation lot so production settings are not silently adjusted at site.
- Judge displacement, force, heat input and contact condition together.
06 · Inline inspection should reveal process drift
Finding one bad part and seeing a trend are different capabilities.
Online thickness, vision, displacement, force and electrical checks create continuous data on a fast line. Trigger jitter in high-speed measurement can appear as product-geometry variation. Sensor resolution is not measurement capability; mounting vibration, temperature, reference and product variation can create bias. Inspection must acquire and decide within cycle and reliably divert abnormal parts rather than merely generate a chart.
Tight limits create false rejects and slow the line; wide limits pass gradual drift. A slow reject mechanism can let an abnormal part enter the next station and mix. Without correlation to an offline reference, production pressure can lead operators to loosen thresholds repeatedly. Useful inline inspection catches individual defects and triggers equipment review when mean or variation approaches the boundary.
When introducing inspection, assess repeatability and reproducibility, then use traceable standards under position, speed and temperature variation. Inspection windows should cover transient thermal behaviour after a machine restart. Separate immediate isolation, process adjustment and maintenance warning with graded user authority. Periodically compare online accepted and rejected samples offline to monitor measurement drift and prove automatic diversion accuracy.
- Integrate measurement, cycle and disposition rules into the line.
07 · Changeover time reveals maintainability
Cleaning, positioning and parameter recovery take longer than a button press.
Battery and automotive lines change materials, widths, models and process settings. Cleaning liquor and wipe use reveal whether changeover design truly reduces residue. Slurry systems need draining and cleaning, dies or rolls may change, and assembly lines adjust fixtures, programs and inspection standards. Downtime is not only mechanical work; cleaning confirmation, thermal stabilisation and first-piece release often consume more time.
A machine optimised for peak output but not changeover can remain underused in mixed production. Wear from repeated fixture-pin changes can shift product position despite correct restored parameters. Quick connectors and automatic recipes save time but can create a wrong-line or program batch without mistake-proofing. Service access also determines how quickly residue and wear parts are handled, a cost hidden by compact layouts during demonstrations.
A design review can have operators and maintainers simulate a real changeover, recording drain, disassembly, cleaning, reset and first-piece confirmation with tools. The first article after changeover should include the hardest edge specification, not only a middle size. Use mechanical error-proofing or identity at critical interfaces and verify equipment positions after recipe download. During ramp, analyse each changeover loss and residue issue before modifying access, programs and spares rather than only pressuring people to move faster.
- Design changeover around residue, tooling, recipes and first-piece confirmation.
08 · The customer site contains the complete process
Factory testing and production validation remain separated by material and system differences.
Pingshan’s vehicle, battery and component settings place equipment builders near customer introduction. Customer cleanroom temperature and humidity also change dust, static and material flow. Factory acceptance often uses surrogate feed, samples or limited duty; the site adds real formulations, utilities, clean environment, logistics and adjacent machines. Passing factory acceptance establishes build and basic function, not customer yield or production approval.
Site problems cross boundaries. Without synchronised utility data, machine alarms can be mistaken for mechanical failure. Coating variation may arise from slurry, die, tension or oven; poor assembly may involve incoming dimensions, fixtures and programs. A contract based only on final yield assigns material variables outside the builder’s control, while unloaded cycle alone gives the customer no production capability. Equipment measures, process conditions and product results need separate definitions.
A project plan can separate design freeze, factory acceptance, installation, linked commissioning, performance test and production ramp, with materials, people, methods and exit criteria at each. Ramp stoppage classification should separate machine, material, upstream waiting and downstream blockage. Both sides preserve site data and isolate anomalies across material, machine, operation and environment. Final handover should include recipe authority, maintenance, spares and training so validated condition persists after the builder leaves.
- Connect factory acceptance, linked commissioning and ramp with clear responsibility.

Manufacturing equipment is separated from the batteries or components it produces. A machine builder can establish mechanics, control range and commissioning history, while customer formulation, yield and production approval belong to the line.
