Shennongjia Forest Products Network
Shennongjia’s forest products grow from the ecology of a county-level forestry district. Tea, xiangjun fungi, walnuts, and medicinal crops provide four comparable 2024 primary-output measures, while Muyu tea, Baihua honey, and understorey Gastrodia follow different processing and market paths.
Formation and regional foundations
Mountain conditions and forest cover support tea, honey, fungi, nuts, and medicinal crops. Activity extends into cooperative processing, geographical-indication management, and understorey cultivation, although primary output and finished-product sales remain different measures.
Shennongjia is a county-level forestry district rather than a prefecture-level city. Tea gardens, bee forage, walnut groves, and medicinal plots occupy different mountain settings, so ecology, seasonality, and processing capacity all matter.

01 · A county-level forestry district
Administrative status shapes how statistics are read.
Administratively, Shennongjia is Hubei's county-level forestry district rather than a prefecture city. Tea gardens, apiaries, walnut groves and under-forest medicinal plots occupy different mountain settings, so related statistics follow the forestry-district boundary. Elevation, seasonality and ecological-protection requirements also affect harvesting, processing and transport in different ways.
Calling Shennongjia a municipality would misstate the statistical level and could imply subordinate counties. The yearbook covers the full forestry district, the Muyu tea example belongs to a town and cooperative setting, and honey-GI regulation concerns a district product without naming every firm.
Shennongjia industry information uses several scopes, including the county-level forestry district, individual towns and geographical-indication products. Every metric retains its data year, publication time, unit and factual status. A place name cannot change the original statistical level, and one company example cannot become a register covering the entire district.
- The four outputs belong to the forestry district and should not be described as prefecture-level totals.
02 · Four primary outputs
Tea, xiangjun, walnuts, and medicinal crops use separate measures.
The yearbook's 2024 forestry-district column separately records 137.95 tonnes of tea, 30.2 tonnes under the term “xiangjun,” 91.7 tonnes of walnuts, and 5,438.8 tonnes of medicinal materials. All use tonnes, but they represent four different primary-product categories.
A shared unit creates no additive relationship. Tea, xiangjun, walnuts, and medicinal materials differ in biological category, harvested form, statistical definition, and later processing.
Later comparison should maintain a separate annual series for each product, confirming that the label, unit, and forestry-district coverage remain unchanged. A non-timber total requires an authoritative source defining additive categories and an aggregation method.
- The four 2024 figures describe raw products and cannot be added together.
03 · Between harvest and processing
Forest produce needs sorting, drying, or preservation before shipment.
The yearbook supplies output for four primary products only. Other material separately describes primary and deeper tea processing, standardised honey processing and packing, and under-forest Gastrodia cultivation. Together these items show several production and processing settings for ecological products, but they provide neither one combined processing volume nor a complete company register or network-transaction total.
Conversion from primary output to processed volume requires yield, loss, inventory and carry-over information that is not available here. The tea cooperative's facilities do not represent the whole forestry district, the honey-service visit gives neither named firms nor output, and the number of Gastrodia cultivation sticks is not a harvested-tonnage measure.
Processing-chain research can gather raw output, procurement, processing input, finished output, inventory, permissions, and firm lists separately for each product, retaining year and locality. Tea needs distinctions among fresh leaves, primary manufacture, and refinement.
- Finished output depends on usable share, losses, and seasonal purchasing rather than harvest volume alone.
04 · Tea from Muyu
Gardens, processing, and tea tourism shape the local experience.
A provincial agriculture-department republication identifies Shennongjia Yandi Qifeng Tea Group Co., Ltd., identifies it as the enterprise supporting a Muyu Town tea cooperative union, and describes cultivation, primary processing, deeper processing, sales, and tea-tourism experiences. A 2023 provincial industry-department report uses a shorter tea-company reference during a visit.
The report's 413 member households, 2,740-mu base, one deeper-processing workshop, five primary factories, 2021 turnover, daily handling level and annual output may belong to the union, specified facilities or historical dates. They do not automatically all belong to the supporting enterprise. The yearbook's 137.95 tonnes is districtwide primary tea output for 2024 and cannot be assigned to Yandi Qifeng or added to the report's annual figure.
Study of Muyu tea should separately verify cooperative membership, base rights, the entity operating each facility, statistical year, product form, and permissions. Current understanding of Yandi Qifeng needs recent registration, permissions, direct company disclosure, and service information.
- Yandi Qifeng offers a company-level view without representing every tea operator in the district.
05 · Baihua honey and its GI
Honey value follows flowering seasons and origin reputation.
A provincial IP directory lists Shennongjia Huiye Ecological Food Co., Ltd., its unified social credit code, and a then-active status under Shennong Baihua Honey, with data through June 2020. A 2026 district regulatory-service report confirms the honey as a nationally protected GI product and records visits about processing, packing, quality control, and proper mark use at key producers, but names no visited entities.
Authorised-user status through 2020 does not prove that mark authorisation remains valid in 2026 or that the company continuously operates. Unnamed 2026 visits cannot independently update Huiye's status.
GI review should separately check protected-product scope, the latest authorised-user directory, company registration, permissions, product labels, and mark status. A regulatory visit identifies service topics but does not substitute for a named-company conclusion.
- Baihua honey is best understood through its GI area, processing hygiene, and product labelling.
06 · Gastrodia and medicinal crops
Understorey cultivation turns forest conditions into specialised crops.
A provincial agriculture-department republication identifies Shennongjia Authentic Medicinal Materials Industry Development Co., Ltd. and its manager's contemporary role at an under-forest Gastrodia base. It records the district's 2022 planning for log-bag cultivation and 30,000 bags planted by the company in the report year.
Thirty thousand planted bags are not Gastrodia harvested tonnes, processed volume, capacity or revenue. Conversion would require survival, growing cycle, yield per bag and loss information. The broader category of medicinal materials is also not a Gastrodia-only measure, so it cannot be attributed to the company or used to calculate output per bag.
Gastrodia research can separately collect fungal materials and strains, planted bags, area, harvested weight, fresh-to-dry conversion, processed products, permissions, and firm counts by year and entity. The broader medicinal category needs species detail before a Gastrodia share is analysed.
- A company project is narrower than the medicinal-output total, which includes more species and growers.
07 · The limits of collaboration
A study visit does not automatically create a lasting supply tie.
A 2023 provincial industry-department report records a Suizhou delegation visiting Shennongjia enterprises, including tea businesses and Huiye Ecological Food, and identifies deep agricultural processing, Chinese medicine, and health products as collaboration directions. Yandi Qifeng's exact name is described in the 2024 tea report.
Visits, talks, collaboration directions, intentions, and agreement wording must retain their factual state. Even when a report says an external firm would use bee resources to develop products, it cannot become completed procurement, supply, production, or sales.
Before adding a relationship, obtain a contract announcement, bilateral confirmation, regulatory disclosure, or formal project document naming both entities, product or service, date, relationship type, and execution state. An intention remains a lead and cannot enter an executed-relationship graph.
- Progress is clearer when both parties confirm it and later performance is visible.
08 · Finding forest produce by season
Harvest, processing, and market seasons vary by product.
Six authoritative materials form a bounded picture of Shennongjia non-timber and ecological products. The yearbook supplies four primary-output figures for 2024, and a tea report provides examples from the Muyu cooperative and Yandi Qifeng. An intellectual-property directory and a regulatory-service report describe the GI-honey setting, while separate reporting covers a Gastrodia grower and limited cross-regional cooperation discussions.
Visitors can explore tea, honey and under-forest medicinal materials as separate origin and processing contexts, while walnuts and xiangjun remain statistical categories here. Primary output is not purchasable inventory, company reporting does not establish factory access, geographical-indication protection does not authorise every product to use the mark, and planted-bag counts are not Gastrodia output.
Anyone planning a visit or purchase can first choose among Muyu tea, geographical-indication honey and under-forest medicinal materials, then confirm current operators, permissions, events and mark use with the relevant Shennongjia Forestry District authorities. Contact only a venue that publicly accepts visitors, checking its address, hours, booking, ecological-protection and hygiene requirements.
- Checking access, product lots, and operators before a trip avoids treating district totals as available stock.
