Shanghai Qingpu BeiDou navigation
Qingpu BeiDou products deliver position with conditions. Satellite visibility, antenna phase centre, receiver and firmware, correction data, coordinate frame, site obstruction and motion state all matter; “centimetre-level” alone cannot establish whether a task is reliable.
Formation and regional foundations
The West Hongqiao base developed specialised services and test support. CHCNAV extends high-precision positioning into surveying, monitoring and intelligent control; AllyNav focuses on agricultural guidance; HighGain covers antennas, boards, terminals and short messaging. They share a spatial-information ecosystem while each application keeps its own update, integrity and coordinate-frame acceptance.
A positioning drift may come from obstructed sky, antenna installation, receiver restart, stale corrections, mixed coordinate frames or site multipath. Qingpu companies work at different layers—boards, antennas, terminals, algorithms and applications. Only aligned logs give an error a reproducible cause.

Six origin layers behind a Qingpu BeiDou result
Whether a displaced track returns to sky, hardware, service or transformation
Nodes describe positioning responsibilities without implying procurement. Time and revision remain intact from raw observation to application alarm.
- Satellite visibility and interference — Constellation, elevation, signal level, cycle slips and interference state are retained by epoch rather than summarised as poor signal.
- Antenna phase centre and installation — Antenna model, pole height, orientation, grounding and nearby reflectors enter the equipment record, with remeasurement after bracket change.
- Receiver and correction data — Board firmware, frequency, solution state, correction source and correction age share timestamps, keeping a fixed solution within its service conditions.
- Coordinate frame and height conversion — Frame, epoch, projection, reference-station result and height model enter task configuration rather than leaving only three output numbers.
- Test track and truth points — Open sky, tree cover, bridge edge and dynamic turns receive separate tracks, with error calculated continuously by scene and time.
- Agriculture, survey and monitoring alarms — Guidance deviation, survey points and deformation alarms use different update and integrity rules instead of comparing peak accuracy alone.
01 · Drift begins with usable satellites overhead
Count, geometry, signal level and cycle slips jointly shape observation quality.
A BeiDou terminal derives ranges from visible satellites, while constellation geometry, elevation, signal level, cycle slips and local interference affect the result. West Hongqiao concentrates positioning enterprises and services, and HighGain publishes antennas, boards and terminals. Those capabilities do not remove the need to record sky conditions for every task. Coordinates without satellite state cannot explain a sudden drift afterwards. Brief blockage by a canopy edge or parked vehicle also needs a time marker.
The same satellite count does not imply the same geometry; satellites concentrated in one direction leave one coordinate component vulnerable. Trees, bridges, glass façades or a vehicle body create blockage and multipath. The terminal may keep outputting positions while showing different bias during turns or stops. An application reading only a positioned flag can accept a briefly unreliable state into control or alarm, a harder risk to see than explicit loss of lock.
Test logs retain satellite identity, elevation, signal level, solution state and cycle slips by epoch, synchronised with route and site imagery or an obstruction map. An investigation first compares satellite direction with blockage and reflection before checking interference and receiver state. The application uses quality, duration and recovery rules as well as coordinate presence, moving to hold, degradation or manual control instead of continuing an apparently precise track.
- A positioning log retains satellite state by epoch rather than final coordinates alone.
02 · A misinstalled antenna turns the vehicle into an error source
Phase centre, pole height and nearby reflectors belong to the measurement system.
HighGain’s published high-precision antennas emphasise multi-system reception, low-elevation gain and phase-centre stability, showing that the antenna is part of the positioning chain. Installation adds pole height, orientation, grounding, cable, vehicle body and nearby metal. Agricultural cabs, survey poles and fixed monitoring stations differ, and one receiver does not automatically retain the same bias or multipath response with another antenna.
Antenna phase-centre offset affects observations by satellite direction, while slight bracket tilt can mix vertical and horizontal components. Roof equipment, a boom or changing load may block one azimuth and create periodic error in motion. Correcting one constant offset in an open field leaves residuals from reflection and attitude at work. Installation faults often appear as an inconsistent algorithm but can be reproduced through direction and operating condition.
The installation record names antenna model, serial identity, firmware compatibility, pole-height method, bracket orientation and nearby structures, with photographs in four directions. A vehicle or machine measures the three-dimensional lever arm from antenna to control or implement point and includes attitude change in compensation; a fixed station checks foundation and grounding. Antenna, cable or bracket replacement triggers benchmark and representative-route testing before any old calibration is accepted.
- After antenna, bracket or location changes, old offsets and calibration cannot be reused directly.
03 · Receiver firmware decides how observations are trusted
The same board can produce different tracks under different configurations.
Qingpu enterprises cover boards, terminals and positioning algorithms, while HighGain material lists integrated-navigation modules and terminals. A receiver selects frequencies, observation-quality thresholds, motion model, filtering and reacquisition behaviour, and firmware can alter exception handling. Identical housings do not establish identical boards, firmware or configuration. A test result points to the actual revision rather than only a brand.
An overly smooth motion model makes a vehicle track look stable but lag in turns, while an aggressive model may interpret multipath as real motion. Receiver restart, reacquisition and return to a fixed solution create transitional quality. Calculating error only over the stable segment hides startup time and recovery, although these measures matter for agricultural turns, logistics under bridges and deformation alarms.
The configuration baseline retains board and terminal identity, firmware checksum, frequencies, filters, dynamic mode and output rate. Testing covers cold and warm start, short obstruction, prolonged loss and dynamic turns, synchronising solution-state changes with coordinate error. A firmware update first receives regression on existing tracks and then a site route. Results remain separated by revision, so improved average accuracy cannot hide worse recovery or abnormal-state alarms.
- Board, firmware, frequencies, filtering and solution state remain with the coordinates.
04 · Correction data has an age of its own
A fixed solution exists only within base, link and timing conditions.
High-precision services combine terminal observations with reference-station or network corrections, a layer reflected by base services and companies such as CHCNAV. Corrections have source, format, coverage, time and delivery link, while the terminal reports fixed, float or standalone state. Published accuracy normally belongs to a service and environment; offline work, communication loss or movement outside coverage cannot retain the same interpretation.
As correction latency grows, a terminal may preserve a solution briefly while error changes despite continuous coordinates. An application accepting only coordinates can treat a degraded result as normal control input. Refixing after network recovery may also create a jump that deformation monitoring reads as structural movement or an agricultural controller converts into abrupt steering. Communication quality is therefore part of positioning integrity, not merely an operations measure.
The task log retains correction-service identity, reference station or network region, data age, link quality, solution state and refix time. Applications set age limits and degraded actions by use: survey collection pauses, agricultural control slows or hands over, and monitoring delays an alarm while checking continuity. Testing deliberately removes and restores the link, observing position displacement, state flags and recovery time instead of proving peak accuracy only under stable communications.
- Correction source, age, link loss and refixing process must enter the task log.
05 · Mixed coordinate frames manufacture a false displacement
Matching latitude-longitude format does not mean one datum and epoch.
A BeiDou terminal output enters a coordinate frame, projection and height system, while survey, construction, monitoring and agriculture may use different local parameters. Shanghai’s navigation and spatial-data layout shows that the application layer extends beyond hardware; coordinate transformation is itself a delivery responsibility. Latitude, longitude or three-dimensional values without frame, epoch and height type cannot be safely overlaid by another system.
Mixed frames or height models create an almost constant offset that can be mistaken for antenna installation. Different epochs may produce slow false change in long-term monitoring. Poor local control points can enlarge residuals on one side of a site while leaving the average attractive. If software silently applies default parameters, a terminal update or project move may shift results although raw observations did not change.
Task configuration states coordinate frame, reference epoch, projection, units, height type and transformation source, and the output stores this metadata with coordinates. Transformation uses independent control points across the work area rather than only fitting residuals, with segmented assessment for long or cross-region work. After a system update, fixed truth points provide regression and raw observations remain available so a transformation error can be recomputed without repeating field collection. Delivery identifies untransformed coordinates for independent checking.
- Frame, epoch, projection and height model belong in the result, not in operator memory.
06 · Guidance lines, survey points and deformation alarms need different pass lines
Update rate, continuity and integrity change with the task.
AllyNav applies BeiDou to agricultural guidance, CHCNAV spans surveying, monitoring and intelligent control, and HighGain products enter communications and emergency use. Agriculture cares about continuous cross-track error and steering delay, survey about repeatable points and coordinate output, and deformation monitoring about long-term stability, integrity and alarm thresholds. All use navigation, but one static open-sky accuracy cannot prove fitness for all three.
A brief agricultural drift may damage crops, a float solution may invalidate a survey point, and one monitoring jump may trigger a false alarm. A centimetre-level average does not describe those outcomes or show recovery after loss. Logistics and autonomous equipment also combine position with velocity, heading, stopping distance and safety space. An application links error distribution and duration to system action before a technical measure becomes an operating boundary.
Agricultural acceptance covers straight passes, turns, dropouts and repeat operation in representative fields. Survey uses independent control points for solution state, coordinates and height. Monitoring uses stable references, known displacement and communication loss to test alarms. Each plan defines update, allowable interruption, degradation and recovery while retaining raw logs. An enterprise description remains within published products and scenes rather than turning one case into a performance guarantee for every industry.
- Operational acceptance begins with the action and consequence rather than advertised peak accuracy.
07 · A test route must keep its difficult segment
Removing the loss-of-lock segment produces attractive, useless statistics.
The West Hongqiao base provides specialised technical services and published material refers to a high-precision navigation test system. A route covers open areas, trees, buildings, underpasses, turns, stops and communication changes, with a stated truth method. Error calculated only over the best segment shows a terminal ceiling but not when ordinary work degrades, and it cannot compare recovery between firmware revisions.
Unsynchronised truth and terminal tracks exaggerate or reduce dynamic error, while different coordinate frames add a constant offset. Manually deleting “outliers” may remove exactly the state a product must handle. Root-mean-square error alone hides tails, continuous outages and directional effects, particularly for alarm or control systems. Route evaluation retains raw data, exclusion rules and every failure segment together.
Before testing, align device clocks, coordinate frame, sample rate and truth method, and mark expected obstruction and manoeuvres in the route script. Report horizontal, vertical, continuity, fixing, recovery and abnormal-state results by scene without silently deleting failures. Every firmware or antenna change repeats the same route, retaining weather, traffic and site changes. Differences that cannot be reproduced remain explicit instead of being replaced by one best track.
- Track statistics cover the whole route, solution transitions and truth source.
08 · Positioning logs are deliverables, not debugging waste
Without revisions and raw observations, a field problem cannot be recomputed.
After delivery, navigation problems occur at a location, time and software revision far from the laboratory. CHCNAV, AllyNav and HighGain span hardware, algorithms and applications, while the base supplies shared technical services, so cross-layer diagnosis needs common logs. Terminal coordinates, raw observations, satellite state, corrections, sensors, firmware, configuration and application alarms easily lose their timeline when retained on separate devices.
A screenshot of a displaced track cannot distinguish display transformation, application filtering or receiver observation. Raw data without site imagery and installation state may miss obstruction or a loose antenna. Too little logging loses evidence, while indiscriminate collection without task and access management creates privacy and operating burdens. Delivery design selects fields, rates, retention and de-identification that genuinely support fault reproduction.
The delivery baseline lists terminal identity, board and firmware, antenna installation, configuration, coordinate parameters, correction service and application revision on a common clock. A field-event package contains logs before and after the event, route, environment, images and operator notes, with sensitive information handled under project rules. Supplier and user agree who retains which data, how a result is recomputed and how an issue is closed, giving each position an engineering context. Recomputed results remain linked to the original event identity.
- Terminal identity, configuration, raw observations, corrections and application actions form one complete timeline.
Sources and reading notes
Accuracy is separated by static or dynamic use, standalone or corrected service, open or obstructed sky, and horizontal or vertical result. A test track retains raw observations, correction age, firmware and coordinate transformation. Each application then judges usability through update rate, continuity and alarm requirements.
- The West Hongqiao base hosts more than one hundred BeiDou navigation and positioning enterprises, not all of which manufacture terminals.
- Base public services include technical consultation and support; this does not make the park operator a navigation-hardware manufacturer.
- A high-precision result requires its service mode, coordinate frame and test environment; an accuracy number without conditions is not comparable.
- CHCNAV, AllyNav and HighGain represent broad high-precision positioning, agricultural guidance, and antenna-terminal work respectively; their deliverables are not substitutes.
