Pingdingshan Nylon Materials
Pingdingshan’s nylon chain runs from benzene, liquid ammonia and hydrogen through adipic acid, caprolactam and adiponitrile to nylon 6, nylon 66, fibres, engineering plastics and textiles. Capacity figures refer to different years and product sets and should not be added.
Formation and regional foundations
The one-core, two-wings China Nylon City supplies the municipal plan, Yexian holds a county-level specialty-cluster identity, and two development areas host different projects. Railway, quality and metrology facilities remain annual tasks whose locations and delivery stages must be distinguished.
Nylon is not simply a matter of total tonnage; each intermediate, polymer and downstream product must connect. Pingdingshan combines a planning boundary, county recognition, project locations and several reporting dates, making a stage-by-stage reading essential.

01 · The nylon chain runs from chemicals to textiles
Benzene, caprolactam, nylon salt, chips and finished goods occupy different production stages.
Pingdingshan’s nylon chain begins with benzene, liquid ammonia and hydrogen, then moves through adipic acid, caprolactam and adiponitrile. Nylon 6 and nylon 66 salt or chips sit in the middle. Chemical-fibre textiles, engineering plastics, modification, injection moulding, weaving and dyeing form several downstream routes.
Benzene, liquid ammonia and hydrogen belong to this industry only when tied to nylon inputs. General coal and salt chemicals, polyurethane, polycarbonate and other activity remain outside unless a nylon link is demonstrated. Sharing a chemical park does not assign every project, firm or value measure to nylon.
Four routes make the material chain easier to follow: caprolactam into nylon 6; adiponitrile and hexamethylenediamine into nylon 66; fibre into cord fabric; and polymers into engineering plastics or modified moulding. Specifications, uses, project state and company role should be compared within each route rather than merged into one number.
- Every tonnage figure needs a defined product.
02 · One core and two wings is a planning map
The 123-square-kilometre figure describes a multi-node concept, not one legal park.
The 14th Five-Year Plan defines China Nylon City as one core and two wings with a planned area of 123 square kilometres. It is a multi-node planning concept rather than one legal park. The Nylon New Materials Development Zone, High-tech Zone and Yexian appear separately and should not be treated as coextensive.
The 2024 industrial-work notice separately names the High-tech Zone, Nylon New Materials Development Zone, Nylon City infrastructure, and research and pilot-platform tasks, showing several functional nodes under the planning label, while accelerate, strive-to, and commission language expresses annual work rather than completed projects or one continuous park.
A useful map marks the 123 square kilometres as planned geography, then places the Yexian specialty cluster, Nylon New Materials Development Zone and High-tech Zone separately with their dates. Formal perimeters, plant sites and logistics would be needed before calling the entire area developed industrial land or assigning its capacity to one owner.
- Planned area cannot replace completed area.
03 · Yexian holds a distinct cluster identity
National review is confined to Yexian rather than one citywide designation.
Item 49 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s 2025 notice lists the Henan Yexian County Nylon Materials Industry Cluster among the first-batch 2022 SME clusters whose recognition continued, with a three-year recognition period and repeal of the original 2022 notice, creating a national-list identity strictly bounded to Yexian within Pingdingshan.
The Yexian county recognition and the China Nylon City one-core two-wings plan occupy different geographic and institutional layers: one is a specific county cluster and the other a municipal multi-node concept. As a result, Yexian recognition does not give the entire city, all 123 square kilometres, or every park the same list identity.
Understanding the Yexian cluster requires its recognition period, later dynamic management, membership, and park material and separation of the notice date from current company information, because the list confirms name and county without a full member register, product output, transactions, market share, or uninterrupted 2026 status.
- County recognition must retain its administrative boundary.
04 · Three capacity figures describe three moments
A historical baseline, bureau reply and year-end review do not form a continuous output series.
The plan gives two different measures: a two-million-tonne 2020 capacity baseline and a RMB 200 billion objective for 2025. The first concerns historical capability and the second future value. The two-million-tonne figure covers the described nylon-material chain rather than output from one company, product or park.
A municipal industry-bureau reply dated 16 June 2025 records three million tonnes of capacity across nylon-material products. A 2026 government work report later says China Nylon City exceeded four million tonnes in its review of the 14th Five-Year period and end-2025. Different dates, scopes and wording prevent a continuous growth calculation.
Comparing the three capacity measures requires retention of the 2020 baseline, June 2025 reply, and end-2025 retrospective and confirmation that product sets align, because capacity is not actual output, sales, or a sum of company capacities and exceeding four million tonnes cannot become a real-time 2026 value.
- Capacity and actual output are different measures.
05 · New routes enter pilot and project stages
Bio-based nylon, aramid and aminocapronitrile each carry a distinct technical and project state.
The 2024 industrial-work notice lists aminocapronitrile, bio-based nylon, hydrogen-ammonia, aramid, research and pilot platforms, and Nylon City infrastructure tasks, providing annual directions for new inputs, materials, and shared research conditions without establishing mature technology, commissioned projects, permitted products, or formed markets.
The 2026 plan adds nylon-66 differentiated functional fibre, cord-fabric equipment upgrades, a dedicated railway line, quality supervision, and metrology testing centers, complementing the 2024 research and pilot direction with a project set spanning technology, production equipment, logistics, and testing without making the two years’ tasks completed facilities.
Project tracking can proceed through technical validation, environmental procedure, construction, equipment installation, acceptance, and product outcomes with park and developer attached, because commission language in an annual document is a work requirement rather than a result and railway or testing-center tasks do not prove one company’s logistics or quality performance.
- A named task does not establish stable mass production.
06 · Rail, inspection and metrology shape coordination
Shared facilities can reduce logistics and verification costs, but delivery progress still matters.
The 2026 economic and social plan schedules more than RMB 10 billion of annual investment in China Nylon City. It also names a dedicated railway, quality-supervision facilities and metrology-testing centres. These are annual resource-allocation tasks, not realized spending, company revenue, industry value or nylon output.
Rail, quality, and metrology facilities may serve a multi-node industry, but the one-core two-wings and integrated chemical ecosystem do not establish service coverage, fees, capability, or construction state, and co-location cannot assign all coal- and salt-chemical logistics and testing demand to nylon.
Assessing actual effects requires later same-year realized investment, railway volume, test services, company coverage, and construction acceptance and separation of nylon-exclusive from shared park portions, because the plan shows 2026 priorities without supporting returns, lower logistics costs, or a quality-improvement percentage.
- An annual investment plan is not realized expenditure.
07 · Three companies occupy different chain positions
Caprolactam, cord fabric and engineering plastics cannot share one product measure.
Regulatory information identifies China Pingmei Shenma Group Nylon Technology Co., Ltd., its Yexian location, an existing caprolactam plant and a second-phase green retrofit. This places the firm at an upstream intermediate stage. The project and capacity information remains a 2024 environmental snapshot rather than proof of current operation, sales or market position.
Pingdingshan Shenma Cord Fabric Development Co., Ltd. is connected with a Yexian project in the nylon-material industrial agglomeration area. The planned relocation and upgrade involves nylon-66 industrial yarn, fine-denier yarn, cord fabric and spinning-grade chips. Design capacity and schedule do not establish completion or present operation.
Regulator material for Pingdingshan Shenma Engineering Plastics Co., Ltd. confirms the official Chinese name, High-tech Zone location, existing nylon-66 chips, and a proposed high-temperature nylon-6T resin retrofit, creating an engineering-plastics node while the 2025 environmental-procedure snapshot proves no current registration, continuing operation, present capacity, sales, or market position.
- Company cases establish only their individual roles.
08 · The next gains depend on product conversion
A new intermediate creates value only when it reaches qualified polymers and downstream orders.
Pingdingshan’s nylon geography combines a municipal one-core, two-wings plan with a county-level specialty cluster in Yexian. The Nylon New Materials Development Zone and High-tech Zone host distinct project settings. Upstream and downstream material routes are joined by shared research, logistics and testing tasks, but the nodes do not share one identical boundary.
A careful comparison keeps five distinctions intact. The 123 square kilometres are planned rather than completed; Yexian recognition stays county-scoped; the 2020 baseline and two 2025 capacity statements do not form one series; planned investment is not realized spending; and the wider coal, salt and chemical economy cannot all be assigned to nylon.
Determining when Nylon City becomes an operating network rather than a planning construct requires separate output for caprolactam, nylon 6, nylon 66, fibres, and engineering plastics plus park boundaries, project acceptance, realized investment, rail volume, testing services, and company operations. A visit can begin with the Yexian county recognition and continue to the Nylon New Materials Development Zone and High-tech Zone to compare products and projects, with any cross-node total requiring the same period and definition.
- Verify process connections before judging scale.
