Ma'anshan Bowang machine-tool blades and moulds

A Bowang order first separates blades, press-brake dies and complete machines. They share one metalworking base but face different edge, load and installation conditions. Heat treatment, matched grinding and repair turnaround determine whether many small specifications can be delivered consistently.

Formation and regional foundations

Shearing and bending machine production created recurring demand for wear blades and dies, drawing local material, forging, quench-temper, grinding and assembly work closer through the repair market. Nearby Yangtze River Delta customers shorten sample, trial-cut and regrind loops, while drawing revision and machine interface remain order-specific.

The same alloy steel behaves differently as a straight shearing blade, a repeatedly loaded bending die or a component installed in a complete machine. Bowang density appears in short loops among samples, trials, regrinding and repair, not in calling every machined metal item one product.

Core geography: A multi-specification processing network across Bowang High-tech Zone and the Danyang-Xinshi manufacturing area, combining shearing and bending machines, industrial blades, press-brake tooling, heat treatment and regrinding

Five precision handoffs for an industrial blade

Where deviation grows between incoming hardness and the customer machine

Links show machining and feedback order. Actual work allocation varies by drawing, material and maintenance window, and proximity does not establish interchangeability.

  • Alloy-steel receipt — Heat, thickness and annealed condition set the later treatment window.
  • Quench-and-temper cell — Hardness gradient and distortion appear here, requiring prior straightening allowance.
  • Precision and matched grinding — Flatness, edge angle and paired height enter one grinding record.
  • Customer shear or press brake — Holder, stroke and work material turn the drawing into actual load.
  • Regrind and repair loop — Wear position, chipping and remaining dimensions decide reuse.

01 · A blade and a die diverge at the direction of force

Shearing depends on edge clearance; bending depends on profile and springback.

Industrial shearing blades take concentrated force along a long edge, while press-brake dies deform sheet between upper and lower profiles. Similar steel does not create one acceptance geometry. Henglida publishes slitting and cutting blades beside bending dies, showing the several load boundaries handled in Bowang. An order described only as a blade mould therefore lacks the first manufacturing fact: its duty. Without the load direction, later precision discussion loses its object.

Combining blades and bending dies in one request compresses parallelism, edge angle, nose radius, working height and pairing into vague tolerances. The result is not merely an inaccurate quotation; heat treatment and grinding may follow the wrong route from the start. Small, varied lots are especially exposed because each specification has few trials and no volume over which a first-piece deviation can disappear. Fewer first pieces make an explicit duty description more valuable.

Before sending a drawing, add one duty sheet covering work material, thickness range, maximum length, machine model, holder section or die clamping, and acceptable burr or angle deviation. State edge reversal and regrind requirements for blades, and segmented joining and deflection compensation for dies. The supplier can then direct similar steel toward the correct forging, treatment and finish-grinding route. Those details can also rule out unsuitable existing fixtures early.

02 · Heat treatment is more than one hardness number

Heat, section and cooling decide whether an edge is hard and tough.

Once blade and die steel enters quench and temper, surface hardness is only a small part of the outcome. Section, furnace position and cooling rate can bend a long blade, while a thick die can develop different internal and surface structures. Bowang industry material and company scope establish a local processing chain, but they cannot establish uniformity for an individual heat; furnace identity and post-treatment measurement carry that conclusion. Parts in one furnace still need tracking by section and loading position.

Pursuing higher hardness narrows the toughness margin, particularly when a customer shears high-strength plate, strip edges or recycled material with variable inclusions; chipping may arrive before gradual wear. Lowering hardness to avoid fracture can shorten edge retention. The correct balance combines work material, impact frequency, edge angle and regrind practice rather than copying another customer's Rockwell figure. A changed failure mode calls for another review of the hardness window.

A trial lot should retain raw-material heat, treatment batch, furnace-loading sketch, hardness locations and a post-treatment distortion map. If the first cut chips, return more than a photograph: mark distance from the end, bolt holes and any weld in the work material. Mapping failure back to furnace and grinding records shows whether the next batch needs a temper change, another edge angle or added local allowance. Preserving chip direction can matter more than another random hardness reading.

03 · A long edge arranges small errors into one line

Flatness, parallelism and edge angle jointly create burr after installation.

Machinery blades can cut along working edges hundreds of millimetres or longer, so a local flatness error may become a continuous clearance change after clamping. A paired set also needs matched height and thickness; two acceptable individual pieces may not remain parallel together. Product catalogues distinguish slitting, cutting and trimming forms, while machine datums, bolt holes and clamp condition establish the final edge line. The long-edge measuring datum must match the actual clamping datum.

When burr rises suddenly, the blade material is an easy suspect, yet rust on the seat, bolt sequence, holder deflection and upper-lower clearance also change the cut. A supplier receiving only the worn blade cannot see installation data and may treat a system fault as a grinding fault. Bowang’s short repair loop works only when the customer returns machine dimensions and work material information. Burr distribution on one trial sheet is a direct system portrait.

Accept a long blade through segmented measurement rather than one maximum error. Record flatness and height at several positions along the edge and keep matched pieces under one set number. Clean the seat, tighten in the specified sequence, and compare burr on the left, centre and right of a trial sheet. An abnormal section should trigger review of both blade profile and machine frame, avoiding blind repeated grinding. Segmented data also reveals whether the holder bends under load.

  • The assembled edge line is the delivered object

04 · Press-brake tooling must work with machine deflection

A correct profile can still produce varying angles along a long sheet.

Upper tool, lower die and clamping datum create the sheet’s load path in a press brake. V-opening width, nose radius and working height affect tonnage, inside radius and springback. Segmented tooling also needs ordered joints and common height or a long sheet changes angle at each seam. Bowang’s combined machine and tooling environment brings these interfaces together without eliminating differences among clamping systems. A profile cannot install correctly when its interface drawing omits clamp height.

A short coupon may confirm angle while a long sheet diverges because of frame deflection, thickness variation and rolling direction. Grinding the entire tool again can damage a correct profile while the actual problem remains in compensation or sheet. Diagnosis should place the machine’s crowning curve, segment order, tonnage distribution and measured long-sheet angles on one view. Whether error moves with a die segment is a valuable field experiment.

For segmented tooling, provide section drawing, segment lengths, numbering direction, clamp type and cumulative set-height tolerance. Trial-bend a long strip of known material, measure several angles, then adjust compensation separately from segment order. Only when the angle deviation moves with a tool segment should regrinding focus on that segment, rather than using machine settings to hide a tooling fault. Change one variable at a time so the result remains diagnostic.

  • Separate tooling from crowning in long-sheet angles

05 · Regrinding turns one sale into repeated life management

Remaining height and chip depth decide repair value.

Industrial blade life often includes repeated removal, inspection and regrinding. The usable portion of initial height excludes installation safety dimensions and minimum stiffness. Each grind restores the edge while consuming allowance for the next cycle. Published technical-service scope shows repair as part of industrial capability, yet the remaining number of grinds depends on measured dimensions and crack condition for that blade. Compare remaining blade height with its original delivered dimension.

Scheduling regrind only by months ignores wear differences caused by material and shift pattern. Waiting until burr escapes control or the edge chips widely increases stock removal and straightening difficulty and may destroy repair value. Better triggers combine cut quality, machine-load change and microscopic edge damage to decide when the tool leaves production. Early withdrawal usually costs less than repair after deep chipping.

Give every blade set a life card recording original dimensions, installation date, work material, accumulated duty, stock removed at each grind and abnormal locations. Preserve pair numbers in impact-protective packing and mark the installation datum before return. After grinding, write the new height back into machine-clearance settings so repaired dimensions do not create a fresh installation fault. A life card stops shifts choosing replacement only by feel.

  • Regrind count comes from a dimension ledger

06 · Many small specifications test scheduling, not plant count

Material, wheel and first-piece changes consume hidden time.

Blade and die orders often split into small lots by length, hole pattern, steel grade and edge angle. Beyond machine time lie material issue, fixtures, wheel dressing, program change and first-piece measurement. Bowang’s enterprise density can shorten subcontract and rework distance, but it cannot erase these changes. Combining ten specifications into one piece count removes the most important setup time from delivery calculation. Every specification difference may require another setup and measurement.

Simple due-date sequencing can change a line repeatedly between the same steels or separate parts that should share a treatment batch, adding furnace cycles and distortion variation. Excessive batching can also leave an urgent repair waiting. Scheduling needs material family, heat route, grinding precision and customer downtime together, creating priorities unlike ordinary standard parts. Separate repair and new-part queues to expose actual downtime cost.

Separate specification count from delivery priority in the request. Mark which parts can share material and treatment and which repairs correspond to a stopped line. The supplier can propose staged delivery and release remaining quantities after first-piece approval. When judging lead time, review setup work and subcontract steps rather than comparing one daily-piece answer. Staged delivery also prevents a first-piece fault spreading across the order.

  • Specification changes belong in lead-time calculation

07 · Nearness to Nanjing speeds samples, not the process itself

Spatial advantage increases feedback frequency without deleting treatment time.

Bowang sits in eastern Anhui with road access to Nanjing metropolitan and Yangtze River Delta equipment users, allowing samples, tooling and repair parts to circulate quickly. The industrial case also describes a concentration of manufacturers and supporting firms, establishing spatial capacity for varied metalwork. This nearness best serves samples, first pieces and urgent repair, but it does not give every firm identical equipment. Confirm the chosen factory’s travel and inspection capability before award.

Short distance can create an expectation that every rework finishes the same day, although furnace batches, stress-relieving deep grinding and inspection keep irreducible rhythms. Sending repeated samples before a drawing freezes can make version confusion worse despite short logistics. Regional collaboration is valuable because it exposes problems earlier and enables joint installation, not because process waiting can be disguised as transport waiting. A process calendar and truck schedule solve entirely different problems.

At project start, name one physical handoff point and one drawing-version owner. Every sample carries a code or paper card stating the reason for revision and the disposition of the previous version. For urgent repair, send wear measurements and machine photographs first so the supplier can judge collection value. When joint setup is required, process staff travel with measuring tools instead of allowing courier speed to replace technical communication. A version card travelling with the part prevents similar sizes being mixed.

  • Short distance enables denser technical feedback

08 · An executable request begins with the failed sample

Place the old tool, cut edge and machine data on one table.

The cluster name helps a buyer locate Bowang, and company sites show ranges of blades, dies and machines, yet neither public description chooses material or precision for one order. The technical starting point is the old part, drawing, work material and observed failure. When one is missing, the supplier fills gaps through experience and a larger risk allowance enters the quotation. Wear on the old part reveals real contact absent from the drawing.

A lowest unit price may omit treatment traceability, reduce measurement locations or exclude regrind service rather than reflect efficiency under equal conditions. Hidden in notes, those differences later return as chipping, angle deviation or urgent-repair cost. Technical, quality and repair responsibility must align before price comparison, or three quotations occupy different coordinates. Price differences become comparable only after responsibility is explicit.

A final request package can contain six items: frozen drawing, old-part measurement, material and volume, machine interface, first-piece trial method, and regrind plus abnormal response. Ask each supplier to mark in-house and subcontracted work and when every inspection occurs. Trial a small lot on real material, recording burr, angle and wear continuously, and increase quantity only after the agreed window is reached. A volume decision should wait for continuous duty, not one attractive cut.

  • The trial-cut window precedes volume price
