Jiangshan medium- and high-voltage transformers
Jiangshan’s medium- and high-voltage equipment begins by separating primary power flow from secondary control. Cores, windings and insulation bear voltage and fault stress, while sensing, protection and switchgear measure and isolate faults; unclear interfaces block system acceptance.
Formation and regional foundations
Local transformer and distribution-control firms connect through projects, testing and packaged delivery. Renewable connections change load profiles but do not bypass temperature rise, insulation, short-circuit withstand and type-test fundamentals.
A transformer nameplate is only part of a primary system. Core and windings shape loss and heat, insulation withstands overvoltage, switchgear clears faults, and measurement plus protection translate primary current to secondary logic. That primary-secondary boundary continues through site energisation and long-term maintenance.
Core geography: A Jiangshan power-equipment network combining power transformers, switchgear, instrument transformers and intelligent control
Power passes five design and validation interfaces
How secondary systems see primary-equipment state
Nodes follow energisation responsibility rather than geography. Links are signal or electrical interfaces and do not imply a joint contract.
- Core and windings — Magnetic, electric and mechanical structures form the active transformer body.
- Insulation and cooling — Insulation and cooling structures govern heating and withstand.
- Factory test hall — Ratio, loss, withstand and partial-discharge records govern release.
- Switchgear and protection lineup — Measurement, protection, interlocks and communications manage faults and state.
- Site energisation and maintenance — Transport, installation, oil samples, load and alarms form operating history.
01 · Primary current and secondary information meet at the terminal box
Equipment boundaries belong in design drawings, not an improvised energisation decision.
A medium- or high-voltage transformer carries primary voltage and current, while temperature, oil level, gas and winding state reach secondary control through sensors and terminals. Kerun spans transformers, switchgear and control, yet every terminal, auxiliary supply and responsible party still requires definition. Signal shielding and earthing remain consistent across both drawing sets. Terminal names also match monitoring screens so temporary aliases do not become permanent operations.
The primary-equipment maker knows body parameters, protection designers own system fault studies, and contractors handle cables and earthing. An interface table saying only communication reserved leaves protocol, point list, supply and shielding unresolved onsite. A broad product portfolio does not automatically fill another party’s design input. The interface table also states who supplies and calibrates test equipment. Any signal without an owner is closed during design liaison rather than guessed before energisation.
Design coordination freezes the primary single-line diagram, secondary schematic and signal matrix. Each point states source, range, contact state, alarm delay and receiving system. Open items keep an owner and due date and cannot be quietly solved by site jumpers after factory release. Every jumper solution enters the approved as-built drawings and review. Matrix revisions retain old values and reasons so installers can identify genuinely new circuits.
- Terminal boxes connect primary and secondary
- Broad products do not remove interface duty
- Signal matrices freeze before factory shipment
02 · Every watt in the core becomes heat
Material, flux density and joints shape no-load loss and noise.
The active part made by Jiangshan Transformer and peers consists of core and windings. Core material, lamination thickness, joints and flux density affect no-load loss, excitation current and noise. Reducing material can raise flux density and change losses plus acoustics, so one efficiency label is insufficient. Lamination burrs and clamping variation can also raise local loss and vibration. Core joints and clamping also affect noise, so loss data are read with assembly records.
No-load loss continues whenever a unit is energised even at low load, while load loss varies with current. Annual energy estimates based only on rated efficiency omit the real load curve and tariff periods. Capacity options should use the same operating profile rather than each selecting its most favourable point. Lightly loaded sites particularly compare the life-cycle share of no-load loss. Annual evaluation integrates the load curve instead of substituting one rated efficiency.
Technical evaluation places guaranteed loss, measurement tolerance and deviation treatment in one table and requires actual factory values. Apply the site hourly load to a life-cycle calculation covering long light load and short overload. Noise requirements correspond to real installation distance and environment. Commercial treatment of loss deviation is agreed at contract award. Ambient correction and instrument uncertainty enter the report so deviations remain comparable.
- Core design affects loss and noise
- No-load loss continues while energised
- Options use one load curve
03 · Insulation ageing is timed by the hottest spot
Average temperature hides the most dangerous winding location.
Winding current produces heat that leaves through insulation, oil or air and cooling structures. Ambient temperature, altitude, harmonics and cooler condition alter temperature rise, while the hottest spot can exceed the average winding temperature. Insulation life follows thermal history rather than calendar age alone. Cooler staging determines hot-spot margin during peak loading. Hot-spot estimates cover foreseeable exceptions such as fouled radiators and fan outage.
Renewable inverters and nonlinear loads can add harmonic losses even below rated current. A top-oil or cabinet-exterior sensor does not directly reveal local hot spots. Protection settings therefore combine the design thermal model with actual sensing rather than treating one temperature as the whole winding. Harmonic spectra retain measurement periods so short samples do not represent a year. Additional loss is recalculated after harmonic sources change rather than relying on one pre-service judgement.
Project inputs provide environment, altitude, load and harmonic ranges so the maker can confirm cooling and rise limits. After energisation, trend load, ambient and temperature and check the model when a cooler stops or oil flow is abnormal. Overtemperature events retain duration for later life assessment. Life assessment states the thermal-model version and input sources. Temperature-rise records retain sensor position, cooling state and load history together.
- Hot spots govern insulation life
- Harmonics add thermal load
- Overtemperature duration enters life assessment
04 · During a short circuit, windings first face mechanical shock
Electromagnetic force, support and impedance form one design.
A system short circuit creates very high current in a brief interval, and electromagnetic forces can move conductors, spacers and clamping structures. Normal operation does not establish withstand for the target network. Impedance, winding geometry and mechanical support determine short-circuit performance together. Transport-related winding movement can also reduce original fault withstand. Winding movement may not create an immediate electrical fault, so mechanical and electrical signatures are compared after an event.
Lower impedance may improve some voltage regulation but raises fault current, while stronger supports can change cooling and manufacturing space. Parameters are not independently maximised. Protection clearing time also matters: slower switchgear and relays expose equipment to more thermal and mechanical energy. Fault studies use the actual operating topology. A system-impedance change rewrites fault limits and triggers review when new generation connects.
The system owner provides maximum and minimum fault current plus clearing time, while the maker supplies impedance, withstand calculations and applicable test basis. Recheck after design change rather than reuse an old conclusion. After a site fault, inspect protection records, winding-deformation evidence and oil abnormalities before continued service. Continued operation requires confirmation from equipment, protection and owner teams. Design review marks the worst fault location on the single-line diagram so all parties share one assumption.
- Short circuits test winding mechanics
- Impedance and clearing time interact
- Post-fault checks cover deformation and oil
05 · The test hall is not a form-stamping station
Routine, type and special tests answer different questions.
Transformer factory work includes ratio, winding resistance, insulation and loss checks, with projects potentially requiring temperature-rise, impulse or partial-discharge tests. Different tests cover manufacturing defects, design capability and specific risks. One passing report does not validate every operating condition. Instrument uncertainty must be compatible with guaranteed-value tolerances. Test order affects temperature and residual charge, so the original timeline is retained.
Witness testing that only produces photographs without prior confirmation of instruments, connection, environment and criteria provides little assurance. Maker and customer may also use different tolerances or rounding. The test plan should be agreed before completion and include how a failure is handled. When repeats disagree, all data are retained before disposition. Witnesses can inspect calibration certificates and connections rather than only the final screen.
Each test records equipment serial number, instrument calibration, connection diagram, environment and raw readings, preserving traceable data beyond an automatic report. A result near the limit is not averaged away; it is repeated and investigated for temperature, contact or instrument effects. Deviation closure needs a technical rationale. Raw waveforms allow later checks of automatic reporting software. A repeat using another instrument or connection records the change instead of averaging the results.
- Tests cover different risks
- Witness plans are agreed in advance
- Near-limit results are investigated
06 · Switchgear and protection decide where a fault stops
Packaged delivery must exercise selectivity and interlocks.
Kerun supplies switchgear and intelligent control, while Shenda enters Jiangshan through power equipment and project delivery. Switch ratings, measurement ratios, protection settings and communication points form the secondary system. An error in any interface can cause failure to trip or excessive tripping. Protection settings use controlled identifiers and reject verbal field changes. Protection decision time and breaker mechanical time are recorded separately to locate delay.
A passing cabinet does not establish station-wide selectivity. Poor time or current coordination between protection levels can enlarge an outage from one feeder. Interlocks tested only in normal sequence can miss maintenance and loss-of-power states. Packaged capability needs system-level logic tests. Interlock tests cover local, remote and maintenance control authority. Local backup is tested under communication failure because network recovery cannot be the only protection.
Factory integration uses final settings and point lists to simulate feeder faults, bus-coupler changes, communication loss and backup-supply transfer. Before site energisation, recheck measurement polarity, circuit continuity and earthing. Temporary settings are clearly marked with a date for restoration to the approved version. Before energisation, every point is checked against the actual supervisory display. Temporary jumpers are counted before energisation so commissioning measures do not remain in service.
- Secondary errors can expand faults
- A passing cabinet does not prove selectivity
- Integration simulates abnormal states
07 · After transport, equipment is no longer in factory condition
Shock, installation and site treatment require new evidence.
Large transformers and packaged equipment travel from Jiangshan through lifting, vibration, tilt and storage, sometimes with parts removed. After factory tests, transport shock, moisture or loose connections can still change condition. Receipt inspection is a new quality gate rather than warehouse acknowledgment. An excessive impact record cannot be cleared solely by normal appearance. Impact records are useful only when aligned with route and handling times.
Skipping settling, oil treatment or secondary checks to accelerate energisation can carry detectable issues into a live system. Installer, maker and owner may interpret boundaries differently, leaving bolt torque, earthing or seals unconfirmed. Responsibility disputes are most costly on energisation day. Oil-treatment equipment and temporary piping also carry cleanliness records. Separately shipped accessories stay bound to the main-unit serial to prevent site mixing.
Before shipment, record impact monitors and sealing condition. On arrival, three parties inspect appearance, pressure or oil level, accessories and monitoring data. Installation quality uses measured torque, vacuum, oil and circuit tests. Energisation approval follows only after open items are formally accepted or closed. Energisation approval names owners and removal dates for temporary measures. Pre-energisation photographs cover seals, earthing and oil paths to establish a later comparison baseline.
- Transport changes equipment state
- Three parties confirm installation boundaries
- Open items close before energisation
08 · Operating data must return to insulation and mechanical life
Alarm count is not condition assessment; trends and events are.
After energisation, load, temperature, oil level, gas, switch operations and protection events arrive at different rates and from different sources. A fault, overload or cooling failure does more than add an alarm. Its duration and the design boundary determine what it means for equipment life. Data gaps during sensor failure are not silently filled with smoothed values. Trend alarms include persistence and data-quality flags so one noisy point does not trigger a diagnosis.
A health score that compresses everything into one colour hides missing data and model assumptions. Gas trends, temperature rise and load retain separate raw curves before an engineer determines whether they support one another. Without baselines and sensor-replacement records, algorithm changes can look like equipment deterioration. Condition-model threshold changes retain rationale and approvers. Maintenance findings return to the monitoring model so thresholds evolve with the actual asset.
At delivery, establish an equipment history linking design revision, factory tests, transport, installation, first energisation and later events. Maintenance decisions cite specific trends and thresholds rather than one score. Component or setting changes create a new baseline while retaining the old one for comparison. Old and new baselines overlap briefly to check for a measurement jump. Digital history retains missing intervals and sensor replacement instead of interpolating disconnection into health.
- Event duration affects life
- Raw trends beat one score
- Equipment history spans design to maintenance

Cluster development, a project under construction and a sold product occupy different levels. Renewable connection is a load and protection duty, not automatic storage capability for a transformer maker, and one construction project does not establish availability at every voltage class.
