Haiyan metal-cutting tools

Broach chipping, hob-profile drift, sudden annular-cutter life loss and blade fracture are not one generic tool-quality issue. Credible assessment matches material heat, treatment, grinding, coating, edge, runout, work material and cutting parameters.

Formation and regional foundations

Haiyan combines adjacent specialisms in precision cutting gauges, holemaking and sawing. Tool steel, treatment, grinding and metrology can support all three, but each tool has its own machine, workpiece, coolant and life criterion.

A Haiyan cutting-tool review begins with the tool–machine–work match and traces material heat, treatment, grinding, coating, metrology, cut tests and regrinds. Broaching, holemaking and sawing retain their own life endpoints.

Core geography: Covering manufacturing in Wuyuan, Wanghai, Ganpu and Qinshan, including broaches, gear tools, annular cutters, hole and milling drills, saw blades and precision cutting gauges. General hand tools, moulds, fasteners and machining-only firms are excluded.

Manufacturing network from tool material to customer cutting feedback

Six nodes across material, blank, treatment, edge, metrology and cutting

The routes share manufacturing resources while geometry, work and life close separately.

  • Tool steel and carbide — Grade, heat, structure and defects set the treatment entry.
  • Cutting and blank forming — Forging, rolling, welding or brazing forms the blank.
  • Heat treatment and stabilisation — Hardening, tempering and cryogenic steps set hardness, toughness and distortion.
  • Grinding, coating and edge — Geometry, runout, finish and edge complete by tool type.
  • Measurement and presetting — Profile, size, coating, balance and setup datums are checked separately.
  • Cut test and regrind feedback — Workpiece, machine, parameters, wear and life bind to product lot.

01 · A tool name must carry workpiece and machine

Tool life loses meaning outside its application conditions.

Broaches, hobs, annular cutters, hole saws and blades cut differently. Machine interface, work material, hardness, allowance, coolant and cycle come first; diameter or name alone cannot prove interchangeability.

Complex tools may form several dimensions or tooth surfaces at once; holemaking stresses centring, chip evacuation and bore finish; sawing adds tension and band speed. They cannot share one life conclusion.

The Haiyan boundary rests on manufactured cutting tools and precision gauges, excluding general hand tools, moulds and all county machining. Each sample requires product and production-site evidence.

02 · Material heat sets the hardness–chipping balance

Higher hardness is not the universal answer.

High-speed steel, powder HSS, carbide and body steel are accepted by chemistry, inclusions, carbides, porosity and size. Identical grade with different structure or thermal history still grinds and cuts differently.

A broach balances long-body rigidity, tooth strength and toughness; an annular cutter holds its edge through interrupted cuts; a blade balances hard teeth with band fatigue. Material selection follows failure mode.

Incoming certificates connect supplier lot, internal heat and final tool identity. Only that chain can distinguish material defect, treatment error and misuse after chipping.

03 · Heat treatment controls structure before a hardness number

The same hardness can hide different stress and toughness.

Austenitising, soak, cooling, temper count and loading set structure, hardness, decarburisation and distortion. Long broaches and thin blades record support and straightening so treatment bend is not passed into grinding.

Hardness positions cover cutting edge, body or weld heat-affected zone, with structure and cracks sampled by risk. One passing shank reading does not prove tooth-tip condition.

Where cryogenic or stabilising treatment is used, purpose, position and lot are stated; the process name is not a life guarantee. Dimensional stability, wear and repeated cuts remain decisive.

04 · Grinding, coating and edge form one geometry system

Coating cannot repair burn, runout or wrong rake.

Finish grinding controls pitch, profile, rake, clearance, runout and finish while monitoring wheel, coolant and burn. Beyond the first piece, drift as the wheel wears matters.

PVD coating records substrate cleaning, run, film, thickness, adhesion and edge coverage. Excess thickness can blunt an edge, while local delamination accelerates abrasive wear.

Honing or micro-chamfer follows work material and cut type. Aluminium, hardened steel and interrupted cuts require different edges; a smooth micrograph is not automatic best performance.

05 · Measurement must follow the cutting datum

Passing size with excessive setup runout still fails bores and profiles.

Broach metrology covers rise per tooth, profile, length and datum coaxiality; hobs add lead, index and flank direction. Programme, probe, temperature and holding follow drawing datums.

Annular cutters and hole saws check diameter, core, edge-height spread, shank coaxiality and joints; saws check pitch, set and flatness. One generic projector cannot release every product.

CNC metrology improves repeatability, but wrong revision, compensation or datum creates consistently wrong results. Digital value comes from linking result to machine, wheel and lot, not merely removing paper.

06 · Cut tests must reproduce customer material and parameters

Smooth idle running proves neither chip evacuation, form nor life.

A validation piece records work grade, hardness, allowance, machine rigidity, holder, speed, feed, coolant and setup. Changing any one can alter wear mechanism and life.

Broaches track force, profile, finish and tooth wear; annular cutters track bore, burr, chips and tooth loss; sawing tracks drift, tooth loss and band fatigue. Life endpoint follows the product.

One longest life is not stable capability. Sample count, distribution, abnormal stops and regrinds are reported, with old revision or comparator tested under the same duty.

07 · Regrinding begins a second manufacturing cycle

After resharpening, geometry, coating and trace must close again.

Before regrind, remaining size, wear, chips and customer duty determine repairability. Cracked, overheated or undersize tools are not processed merely to extend use.

Stock removal changes edge position, web, tooth rise or coating, so post-regrind measurement and cut validation follow those features. The original certificate does not automatically cover repaired state.

Tool identity links manufacture, first use, every regrind, recoating and retirement. That turns customer-life feedback into design and process learning rather than a context-free average.

08 · Three specialist routes share a base, not product conclusions

Scale, patents and equipment explain value only at model and duty level.

Hengfeng represents complex precision tools, Xinxing holemaking and Hailian sawing. Together they show Haiyan’s material, treatment, grinding, metrology and export base, not one firm’s combined capacity.

Published annual figures belong to their company and product boundaries and are not added as actual cluster output. Planned project, permitted capacity and current shipment remain separate columns.

Cluster upgrading depends on material lots, treatment runs, measurement programmes and customer cutting data returning to engineering. Digitalisation is not a form moved to a screen; it lets one chipped edge reach its real cause.

Sources and reading notes

Government material establishes cluster, project and site; exchange filings and official sites check entity, product and control. Plans, permits, published annual output and actual shipments remain distinct scopes.

  • The MIIT list confirms the national name of Haiyan’s metal-cutting-tool cluster.
  • Environmental material records Hengfeng’s one-million-piece precision-tool upgrade; the figure belongs to that project.
  • Xinxing’s official site publishes approximately six million tools annually and confirms Haiyan holemaking products.
  • Hailian’s official site publishes jig, reciprocating and carbide-saw products.
