Guiyang Baiyun civilian aluminum processing
Civil aluminium processing in Baiyun builds on Guiyang’s aluminium-industry history, linking ingot, sheet, strip, profiles and downstream work to construction, transport, packaging and general industry. Procurement turns on alloy temper, dimensional tolerance, surface requirement, lot size and processing depth rather than treating all aluminium goods as one commodity.
Formation and regional foundations
Chalco’s Guizhou operations and Guizhou Aluminium Plant left production, technical and community infrastructure, while industrial-heritage recognition records that history. Sheet-and-strip projects, digital practices and provincial investment lists show continued movement toward deeper processing and equipment renewal, although a disclosed project is not current output.
Baiyun has a long aluminium history, but a modern purchase order ends with grade, temper, thickness or section, surface and downstream work. The discussion follows material identity, forming, heat treatment, inspection and logistics, separating historical foundations, project capability and an acceptable product.
Core geography: Centred on Gongjiazhai and the aluminum-processing base in Baiyun, the boundary covers sheet and strip, foil stock, profiles, recycled-feed coordination, industrial services and quality testing. Upstream capacity relocated outside Baiyun is not counted as current local processing.

How a material lot moves from end use to a deliverable part
Sheet, strip, extrusions and machined parts take different branches. The map emphasises renewed responsibility for material, dimensions and surface after each change of form.
- Use, alloy and temper — Load, formability, heat transfer, corrosion and appearance needs are translated into grade, temper and segregation rules.
- Ingot, slab or extrusion billet — Original metal lot, chemistry and homogenisation condition travel with the stock into the next operation.
- Sheet rolling or profile extrusion — Reduction schedule, die and temperature window shape thickness, section, microstructure and downstream allowance.
- Heat and surface treatment — Solution treatment, ageing, annealing or surface work is selected by product route, with furnace lot and process condition recorded.
- Cutting, machining and final inspection — Finished dimensions, flatness, mechanical properties and appearance are judged against order items before dispatch.
- Packing, transport and offcut recovery — Segregation, moisture and scratch protection affect arrival quality and whether recovered offcuts retain a clear identity.
01 · How an old industrial base enters a new order
History explains the origin of capability; order documents decide what can be delivered today.
Guiyang’s profile and industrial-heritage recognition record the long presence of aluminium in Baiyun, while Chalco’s Guizhou operation and Guizhou Aluminium Plant provide an identifiable corporate lineage. They explain regional accumulation but do not prove that a line still runs at its historical scale.
Utilities, skills and supplier relationships inherited from an old industrial base can lower some entry costs, but equipment generations, product mix and environmental requirements keep changing. Buyers should evaluate historical reputation separately from visible current processes, people and quality systems.
Before a visit, request current business scope, equipment list, main product ranges and a recent comparable delivery sample from the manufacturer. Where a group or branch is involved, the clarification record should name the parties responsible for quotation, production, invoicing and quality.
02 · Alloy temper begins with service conditions
The trade-off among strength, forming, corrosion and appearance comes before price comparison.
Chinalco material shows a sheet-and-strip processing direction in Baiyun, yet “aluminium sheet” is not a complete specification. Grade, temper, thickness, width, surface class and subsequent forming together determine suitability.
Greater strength can reduce forming margin, while a better surface can add pretreatment and protection cost. Architectural appearance parts, heat-transfer products and general structural pieces rank flatness, corrosion and conductivity differently.
The enquiry should cite a clear product standard or agreed drawing and define substitute grades, guaranteed properties, sample approval and colour-deviation handling. Any recycled-content requirement should also state the applicable product, verification method and lot record.
03 · Rolling and extrusion take different roads
Sheet and strip focus on gauge and shape; profiles depend more on section, die and straightness.
The disclosed 150,000-tonne sheet-and-strip project shows investment in rolling capability, with the figure belonging to project design. Extrusions, rolled products and machined parts need different equipment, so one project scale cannot describe all civil aluminium processing in Baiyun.
In rolling, temperature, reduction and tension affect gauge and shape; extrusion balances billet temperature, die flow and pull. Later levelling or finishing can correct geometry in either route, but internal material condition cannot be judged by appearance alone.
Supplier review should examine equipment range, die control, in-process measurement and line clearance for the purchased form. Samples should come from the intended route and retain coil, piece or production-lot identity rather than substituting a laboratory coupon for production condition.
04 · Heat treatment turns structure into performance
Furnace temperature, soak, transfer and ageing together determine the agreed temper.
Company and project material establish aluminium-processing direction but cannot provide furnace results for a particular lot. Solution treatment, quenching, ageing or annealing varies by alloy and product, and the order should distinguish supply temper from any customer-side treatment.
Furnace loading and sensor placement affect uniformity, while transfer delay can change quenching response. An average property can hide differences at coil ends or across positions, so sampling location and direction need prior agreement.
A lot file should connect raw-material identity, furnace lot, process curve, mechanical tests and exception handling. If welding, bending or anodising follows, sample work can test compatibility between temper and the downstream operation.
05 · Surface quality is more than colour
Scratches, oxide film, texture and protective film are specified around the final visible face.
Sheet, strip and profiles can acquire surface defects during transport, levelling, cutting and machining. A historical brand or project name cannot identify the decorative face, allowable colour variation or replace an approved reference sample.
Bright finish, brushing, coating and anodising require different pretreatment cleanliness and lot consistency. A surface process may improve appearance or corrosion resistance while changing dimensions, contact resistance or later bonding.
A contract attachment can define appearance with defect images, limit samples, colour range, viewing angle and protective-film requirements. Timing, lighting and responsibility for unpacking inspection should also be set so later damage can be attributed.
06 · Dimensions and properties need sampling rules
A passing number matters only when object, location, method and lot are clear.
Environmental-credit and company information provide compliance and identity context, not a product inspection certificate. Chemistry, tensile properties, hardness, conductivity, gauge or section dimensions should be selected by the order rather than imposed identically on every aluminium product.
Coils can vary by position, long profiles from end to end, and heat-treated loads from one another. Sampling only the easiest location can understate risk at edges, ends or near a lot change.
The inspection plan should define lot composition, sample count, location, test direction, retest and rejection. If supplier certificates, third-party reports and incoming results differ, compare methods and sample identity before assigning responsibility.
07 · Digital records matter when tied to metal
Equipment data, coil identity and inspection conclusions must point to the same material lot.
Guiyang’s digital-manufacturing case shows an upgrading direction, while the systems used by a specific plant still require site confirmation. Data value in aluminium processing lies not in screen count but in continuous links among raw material, process, equipment and finished identity.
If furnace, coil and customer order use different codes without a mapping, traceability breaks after slitting, cutting or subcontracting. Manual back-entry can also misalign timestamps with the real operation.
To examine the data chain, select a finished package at random, trace backward through inspection, heat treatment, forming and raw material, then forward to dispatch and complaints. Any manual bridge needs a controlled document and reviewer.
08 · Lower-carbon buying begins with segregated offcuts
Energy, yield and recycled metal use need product-route explanations, not a company slogan.
Provincial investment and environmental material place Baiyun aluminium in an environment of renewal and oversight, but they do not provide a carbon footprint for every product. Primary metal, recycled input, energy mix and process loss all change the result.
Mixed-alloy offcuts lose recovery value, and oily, coated or contaminated scrap needs extra treatment. Better yield often reduces both metal loss and processing cost, making it closer to order reality than an isolated energy figure.
A sustainable-procurement clause should state the accounting boundary, product lot, recycled-content method and document type. If the customer owns offcut recovery, weighing, segregation, transport and transfer of title also need agreement.
