Chongqing Tongliang new energy storage
Cell capacity is only the starting point: lot consistency, formation history, resistance, self-discharge and thermal-runaway protection must be read together. The review connects anode, separator, cell, module, liquid cooling, management and fire protection.
Formation and regional foundations
Tongliang’s cell project attracted anode, separator and structural suppliers, forming a network from key materials to systems. Planned, under-construction and operating capacity remain separately labelled so targets do not become current output.
The inquiry does not make gigawatt-hours the only answer; it follows material lots, cell serials, formation and grading, thermal management, control logic and system faults.
Core geography: The boundary covers evidenced Tongliang storage cells, anode material, separators, battery-system integration, thermal management and safety support. Electric two-wheelers, generic photovoltaics, unbuilt long-range plans and trading-only activity are excluded.
Serial chain from materials to storage racks
Six cell-production and system-validation nodes
Capacity, thermal safety and control records must align by lot.
- Anode and separator — Particle, pore and lot enter cell history.
- Coating and electrodes — Mass, density and burrs follow the roll.
- Assembly and filling — Cleanliness, moisture and sealing bind to serial.
- Formation and grading — Capacity, resistance and self-discharge set grade.
- Modules and liquid cooling — Pressure, flow and temperature spread follow rack.
- Management and fire protection — Communication, interlocks, alarms and suppression are accepted together.
01 · Capacity starts with duty
314 ampere-hours is not station performance.
A storage cell’s rated capacity belongs with rate, temperature, cut-off conditions and life stage; one number cannot answer long operation.
Customer duty first defines daily cycles, standby time and usable energy before cell and system margins are assigned.
Tongliang’s planned gigawatt-hours describe a construction target; delivery still rests on lot, model and test date.
02 · Anode powder affects first efficiency and life
Particle, surface and moisture stay in one lot record.
Graphite moves through crushing, shaping, granulation and pre-carbonisation, each changing surface area, compaction and slurry dispersion.
Incoming release needs coarse-tail particles, magnetic contamination, moisture and package integrity, not average size alone.
Jinhui’s design capacity belongs to the material project and cannot be converted directly into Hithium cell output.
03 · Separator thinness and safety must balance
Pores, strength and shrinkage all matter.
Wet-process base film passes stretching, extraction and heat setting; thickness uniformity, porosity and puncture strength jointly set assembly limits.
Ceramic or polymer coating can improve heat and wetting performance but adds checks for coat mass, shedding and interface consistency.
Separator unit energy depends on product structure; one value cannot cover every thickness and coating route.
04 · Electrode burrs travel downstream
Coating, calendering and slitting form one chain.
Slurry viscosity, coat mass and oven temperature set electrode uniformity, while edge faults often emerge only after slitting.
Low calender density loses volumetric energy; excessive density can damage pores and raise spring-back, so settings follow the material lot.
Electrode-roll number, blade life and inline defect images should remain with cell serials so short-circuit investigation stays continuous.
05 · Formation builds the cell record
Capacity grading also needs resistance and self-discharge.
Rest after filling, first-charge temperature and current curve shape the interface film; final capacity cannot hide abnormal voltage.
Grading combines capacity, direct-current resistance, open-circuit voltage and self-discharge rather than sorting by one threshold.
Retest and rework must retain original curves and reason codes so one cell does not gain conflicting identities in the system.
06 · A battery rack needs real consistency
The weakest cell limits usable rack energy.
Module matching includes resistance, thermal response and ageing differences as well as capacity, or balancing will chase the spread indefinitely.
Busbar torque, insulation distance and sensing connections are assembly quality; software cannot compensate for looseness or contact resistance.
Rack charge-discharge tests should place minimum cell voltage, maximum temperature spread and coolant flow on one timeline.
07 · Liquid cooling has its own lot history
Flow uniformity matters beyond total flow.
Cold-plate flatness, interface thickness and branch resistance set cell temperature spread; pump total flow does not represent each branch.
Coolant recipe, cleanliness and leak tests stay with system serials so corrosion or blockage retains material and assembly clues.
Cold start, hot full-power operation and pump failure are different scenarios whose protection logic needs separate validation.
08 · Fire protection cannot be added after alarms
Detection, isolation and exhaust must interlock.
The management system acquires and controls, but sensor placement, communication delay and loss-of-link strategy determine timely alarms.
System safety tests should cover overcharge, external short, cooling loss and thermal propagation; cell reports cannot replace them.
Hithium, Jinhui and Housheng cover cells, anode and separators respectively; each entity remains responsible for its lots and interfaces.
Sources and reading notes
Chongqing authorities, project assessments and Tongliang records verify entities, lines and operating dates. Planned capacity is not actual output, and a cell test does not replace rack or station validation.
- Public records put Tongliang new-energy-storage output above CNY 8 billion in 2024.
- The assessment records CNY 13 billion in planned investment for Hithium’s Tongliang project; it is not completed investment.
- The published Jinhui Tongliang project design is 100,000 tonnes of lithium-ion battery anode material per year.
- Tongliang records list nine supporting projects attracted around Hithium, with status checked project by project.
