Chengdu Chenghua intelligent robots

Chenghua brings together industrial and collaborative robots, rehabilitation devices and automation cells. Its chain includes controllers, servo drives, gearing and sensing, mechanical bodies, safety tests, system integration and field maintenance.

Formation and regional foundations

Longtan industry facilities, Chengdu universities and engineers, local robot makers, and recurring factory and medical use let mechanical, control, software and integration teams iterate around Chenghua. Projects then expose engineering work to real pace and use risk.

A robot creates value not by moving an arm alone, but by completing work reliably among parts, fixtures, people and connected machines. Chenghua firms can draw on Chengdu drives, sensors, software and integration, while factories and rehabilitation settings impose very different loads and safety conditions. Powering a machine is not delivery: accuracy, guarding, end tools, programmes and maintenance all need proof in the real task.

Chenghua intelligent-robot collaboration nodes

Links among parts, machines, safety tests and application integration

Nodes show function and responsibility; part origin, integration site and user follow each contract.

  • Robot body and machine production — Arms, joints, base, cabling and cabinet form a machine ready for tuning.
  • Servo, gearing and sensing parts — Motors, drives, encoders, reducers and force sensors shape motion.
  • Control software and end tooling — Motion, logic and communication work with grippers, torches or therapy attachments.
  • Accuracy, endurance and safety validation — Load, speed, stopping, guarding and long duty are tested by use.
  • Work-cell and rehabilitation integration — Material flow, fixtures, line signals, therapy plans and people enter commissioning.
  • Spares, training and field service — Operators, clinicians and maintenance teams keep equipment available through records.

01 · How Longtan facilities and Chengdu engineering formed the cluster

Machine firms, parts, universities and applications collaborate nearby.

Longtan industry space supports robot, control and integration firms, while Chengdu universities, vocational schools and engineers add mechanical, software and commissioning skills. Local factories, rehabilitation bodies and demonstration work turn abstract technology into cycle time, patient variation and safe-stop problems. The 2025 ministry list recognised the Chenghua regional cluster.

Provincial science and technology material records more than seventy robot-chain firms in Chenghua, showing parts, software, tooling and service around machine makers. The count does not give every organisation equal technical depth, premises or customers, and one rehabilitation maker’s qualifications cannot transfer to an industrial integrator. Capability still follows product, site, people and reproducible delivery.

Fourteen projects and about CNY seven billion in proposed investment signed at one event describe that moment’s agreements. Entity formation, premises, equipment, staffing, trials and customer validation still stand between agreement and operating output or revenue. Progress follows construction milestones and actual orders rather than dividing an event total among firms.

  • The Chenghua cluster entered the 2025 national list.
  • More than seventy firms indicate supply density.
  • Event agreements and proposed investment differ from operating capacity.

02 · How industrial, collaborative and rehabilitation robots differ

Load, speed, human contact and task change the safety architecture.

Industrial robots for welding, handling, palletising or machining pursue speed, load, repeatability and continuous duty, with people separated by fences, light curtains or interlocked doors. Rated load includes the gripper, cables and part, not only the item moved. Cell throughput also includes feeding, locating, process and recovery time, so maximum axis speed is not line capacity.

Collaborative robots may share space with people under defined conditions, but not at arbitrary speed or with any tool and no guarding. Risk assessment covers arm, gripper, part edges, surrounding fixtures and trapping points, with different speeds for normal, teaching and recovery. Force or power limitation is only one protection; sharp tools, hot parts and fixed obstacles can still cause severe injury.

Rehabilitation robots contact a patient directly and adjust assistance and motion to height, range, strength, pain and therapy stage. Over-travel, abnormal resistance, loose straps, power loss or discomfort require predictable stopping and rapid release by clinical staff. Therapy plan, device settings and each session correspond clearly, and technical output does not replace professional medical judgement.

  • Industrial robots often repeat fast tasks inside guarded space.
  • Collaborative use limits force, speed and trapping around people.
  • Rehabilitation devices add patient variation, therapy plans and medical risk.

03 · How servo, gearing, encoders and end tools work together

Motion accuracy belongs to the whole electromechanical chain, not one part.

A servo drive controls motor current and speed, an encoder returns position, and gearing converts high speed into joint torque. Backlash, structural stiffness, encoder resolution and control tuning jointly affect tracking and settling, so one component passing a bench test cannot establish machine accuracy. Calibration records axis error and vibration under representative load, pose and speed.

Internal power and signal cables flex with the joints, brakes hold load after power loss, and bearings and lubrication shape resistance and life. Endurance should use representative trajectories, starts, stops and changing loads rather than cycling an empty arm at one speed. Temperature, noise, brake slip, encoder count loss and path drift are followed throughout.

Grippers, vacuum tools, torches, screwdrivers, sanding heads and therapy attachments change total load, centre of gravity, inertia and risk. Selection follows part material, tolerance, surface, process force and behaviour after air or power loss, with presence sensing and retention where needed. Tool replacement requires new load settings, paths, stop distance, guarding and process confirmation.

  • Motor, drive, encoder and reducer jointly determine axis response.
  • Cables, brakes, bearings and lubrication alter long-duration motion.
  • End tools follow parts, process and failure consequences.

04 · How safe stopping, accuracy and long duty are validated

Robot performance is measured repeatedly under real load and guarding.

Repeatability measures dispersion when returning to one command, position accuracy compares actual and commanded points, and path accuracy follows motion between them. Welding, dispensing, assembly and palletising weight these results differently, so tests use representative tool, load, speed and workspace. Final acceptance also includes foundation stiffness, temperature and part location after installation.

Interlocked doors, curtains, scanners, emergency stops, safe speed and brakes form one protection chain. Each safeguard is triggered under varied speed and load, stopping time and distance are measured, and guarding follows the worst result. Maintenance and teaching rights, reduced speed and restart conditions receive their own tests rather than relying on a normal automatic cycle.

Continuous duty heats motors, drives, gearing and cabinets while cable flex, lubrication and fastening change with cycles. Endurance uses representative programmes over several shifts and records temperature, alarms, path deviation, stops and recovery time. Measuring position only at the start and finish can miss drift during thermal stabilisation, so critical results are sampled over time.

  • Position accuracy, repeatability and path behaviour are defined by task.
  • Safety functions are tested from sensor through brakes and software.
  • Long runs follow heat, lubrication, drift and recovery.

05 · How control programmes, line signals and operating records are managed

Motion and logic change with equipment, fixtures and production recipe.

Paths, positions, speeds, loads, signals and safety settings map to a specific robot, tool, fixture and part revision. A new gripper changes centre of gravity, envelope and signals, making a copied old programme prone to collision or weak grip. Changes record editor, reason, test result and effective time rather than leaving undocumented touch-ups in production.

An automation cell exchanges ready, request, complete and fault signals with feeders, vision, process equipment, conveyors, inspection and storage. Normal flow is easy; delay, duplication, loss or restart in an intermediate state tests recovery. Commissioning deliberately disconnects networks, stops adjacent machines and inserts a bad part to ensure the system neither repeats work, grips empty space nor skips a required step.

Operating records align alarms, axis load, cycle time, product identity, process results and operators, helping distinguish deformed parts, worn fixtures, bad paths and servo faults. Clocks stay synchronised and later revisions do not overwrite alarm meaning or programme identity. Predictive warnings are judged against actual stoppage and part wear, not the smoothness of a chart.

  • Programme revisions map to robot, tool, part and safety setup.
  • Machine handshakes need timeout, sequence and reset logic.
  • Operating records separate product, process, machine and human causes.

06 · How factories, rehabilitation providers and integrators accept delivery

Machine, cell, therapy protocol and long-term service require separate scope.

A factory provides representative parts, mix, process, adjacent cycle, shifts, space and existing safeguards. Acceptance looks beyond arm motion to product quality, changeover, fault recovery and multi-shift availability under real input variation. Capacity that omits feeding, inspection, process time and planned stops will overstate the line through nominal robot speed.

Rehabilitation equipment operates under clinical or qualified rehabilitation staff. Procurement defines intended patients, contraindications, restraints, settings, emergency release and cleaning. Trials expand from healthy simulation and staff rehearsal to controlled patient use, recording discomfort, aborts and faults. If motion, force or outcome information is collected, purpose, access, retention and deletion are explained to both patient and institution.

An integrator combines robot, tool, fixture, vision, conveyors, process equipment and safety control into one cell whose overall risk cannot be divided among separate machines. Contracts assign risk assessment, process data, external-machine changes and interruption response. Handover includes layouts, electrical drawings, programme backups, settings, safety tests, spares and training, not just a cabinet key.

  • Industrial users accept parts, cycle, process quality and availability.
  • Rehabilitation adds staff competence, cleaning, patient suitability and data scope.
  • Integrators own fixtures, external equipment, safety and cell output together.

07 · Long-term risks from collision, software ageing and line dependence

Robot service life often exceeds computing platforms and some supply cycles.

After a collision, an unchanged exterior does not prove bearings, reducers, encoders, brakes and base fastening remain sound. Maintenance retains programme, speed, load, alarms and scene, then uses inspection, zero and path checks before recovery. Clearing the alarm and running slowly can carry hidden accuracy drift into product quality.

Mechanical bodies may last many years while controllers, panels, industrial computers, networks and software support end sooner. Procurement covers firmware and security term, programme export, offline recovery, old spares and migration to newer controls. A controller replacement also rechecks safety setup, signals, external communication, tool data and accuracy rather than importing paths alone.

With higher automation, one stopped robot can block continuous flow and idle adjacent equipment, so backup strategy follows bottleneck and repair time. Axis modules, drives, controllers, tools and software spares must match field revisions and be commissionable. Factories rehearse manual work, bypass, module replacement and programme recovery, measuring real shift time rather than counting stock.

  • After collision, mechanics, encoders and fixtures need checks beyond alarm reset.
  • Controllers, software, networks and special spares need life-cycle plans.
  • One stopped cell can block a line, so recovery is rehearsed.

08 · How a new robot cell moves from sample work to sustained use

A limited deployment tests people, parts, pace and maintenance together.

A pilot may begin with one weld cell, assembly task, therapy path or material move, but requirements include representative part variation, human entry, adjacent signals and normal shifts. Industrial work turns quality, cycle, changeover, availability and safety into measurable behaviour; rehabilitation adds intended patients, clinical supervision and stop criteria. Suppliers then define machine, tool, integration, tests, training and spares within that boundary.

Factory acceptance uses intended robot, controller, tool, fixture, software and safety components to check assembly, programmes, paths, load, protection and continuous cycles. Site acceptance adds the real foundation, power, air, network, adjacent machines, environment and operators. Records and software states match across both stages so transport, installation, site and machine causes remain distinguishable.

Controlled operation covers production, changeover, cleaning, planned maintenance, human entry, bad parts, network loss and recovery from one critical fault. Review combines conforming output, cycle time, stops, manual intervention, spare use, safety events and service response rather than judging one fast demonstration. More cells or institutions follow only after faults are located, repaired and absent in later shifts.

  • Requirements fix task, part variation, human contact and output.
  • Factory and site acceptance prove assembly and use separately.
  • Expansion follows quality, stable pace, safety and recovery.
