Bozhou Qiaocheng modern Chinese medicine
Qiaocheng modern TCM is best read through one herb. Species and medicinal part establish identity, moisture and foreign matter govern receipt, cutting and processing change characteristics, and tests plus formulation decide whether it becomes a decoction piece or medicine input. Herbal tea is outside this line.
Formation and regional foundations
Bozhou’s herb market and Qiaocheng manufacturers keep procurement, processing and quality feedback close, yet natural variation still requires lot segregation. Pharmacopoeial tests, GMP procedures, retained samples and traceability constrain industrialisation; tradition cannot replace reviewable records.
A herb entering a factory may be cleaned, cut, processed, tested and formulated, yet it cannot lose species, medicinal part or origin lot. One root-herb batch connects Qiaocheng trading, decoction-piece manufacture and finished medicine along a single traceable path.
Core geography: A Qiaocheng modern-TCM network linking herb trading, origin processing, decoction-piece preparation, finished medicines and batch traceability
Five identity and quality gates for a herb lot
How identity survives after the herb changes form
Nodes show lot transformation and responsibility rather than distance. Actual flows require transaction records and are not established by the diagram.
- Origin and crude-herb lot — Species, medicinal part, harvest and supplier form initial identity.
- Cleaning, cutting and processing — Foreign-matter removal, piece shape and processing change form and moisture.
- Pharmacopoeial release — Identity, assay, contaminants and moisture govern lot disposition.
- Extraction and formulation — Pieces entering extraction and dosage forms remain linked to original lots and process.
- Retention and recall chain — Supply, process, test and distribution records support recall.
01 · The same herb name may not mean the same medicinal object
Species, part and origin are confirmed before cutting.
A TCM name can refer to a defined botanical source and medicinal part. Similar species, other parts or mixtures do not become one object because a market name is shared. Roots, rhizomes, bark and fruits differ in tissue and constituents, so identity should be established while complete morphology remains observable. Latin botanical names and official Chinese names remain consistent in test documents. When a local name conflicts with the legal identity, the warehouse label follows the confirmed medicinal object.
After slicing or milling, many macroscopic features disappear and later identity depends on microscopic, physicochemical or other methods. Treating a supplier certificate as the only identity evidence can amplify a wrong herb through production. Supply records, sampling and in-house identification should provide independent evidence. Disputed identity samples go to an independent laboratory with appropriate capability. Side-by-side photographs and distinguishing features help purchasing identify similar material next season.
Before storage, each supply lot receives photographs, packaging, origin, supplier, medicinal part and sampling-location records, with stratified sampling when mixture is suspected. Material without confirmed identity stays quarantined and is not cut to meet schedule. Identification results and physical retention use the same identifier. Quarantined material uses visible identification and restricted charging access. Both parties confirm sampling seals so specimens are not mixed after identity review.
- One name does not ensure one species
- Cutting removes macroscopic features
- Unconfirmed material stays quarantined
02 · Moisture in a sack can rewrite the whole lot
Storage, mould and sampling bias shape risk before processing.
Herb moisture reflects harvest, drying, transport and storage and can vary between sacks or layers of one shipment. Excess moisture raises mould and microbial risk, while very low moisture can cause breakage and affect cutting. Warehouse climate records do not necessarily represent conditions inside closed packaging. Packages next to a damp sack receive an expanded inspection. Temperature and humidity inside stacks are recorded separately because hot spots can hide between packages.
Sampling only accessible surfaces can miss damp sack bottoms, concentrated foreign matter or mixed origins. Larger lots require spatial coverage. A passing average does not automatically clear local mould because contamination may spread and affect adjacent packages. Physical observation remains part of quality assessment. Sampling tools are cleaned between lots to prevent carryover from another herb. Odour and caking locations are mapped to vehicle and stack position to locate the moisture event.
Receipt inspection creates a sampling map by package and stack position and records odour, colour, pests, temperature and moisture, isolating abnormal packages. Storage uses lot segregation and first-in-first-out, adjusted by risk for less stable material. Restacking and preservation activities enter the lot history. Pest treatment records chemical, area and affected lots. A confirmatory sample is taken again from original packages rather than repeatedly testing one powder.
- Moisture varies within a lot
- Sampling covers stack variation
- Preservation enters lot history
03 · Cleaning and cutting redefine the lot
Foreign-matter removal, piece form and drying retain quantity and identity.
Xiehecheng and other decoction-piece makers sort, wash, condition, cut and dry crude herbs. Each step changes mass and quality. Removed non-medicinal parts, absorbed wash water and cutting fines need records, and abnormal yield can indicate an incoming or process problem. Water quality and contact time during washing and conditioning are key process conditions. Cleaning loss is measured separately for foreign matter, non-medicinal parts and rejected material.
Piece form is not merely visual. Thickness affects drying and mass transfer in decoction or extraction. Inadequate conditioning causes breakage, while excess can move constituents. Repeated sorting for a uniform appearance can also change effective composition, so cutting parameters follow the herb and intended use. Fines receive a compliant disposition and are not blended back merely to raise yield. Waiting beyond the moistening window changes slicing behaviour, so queue time enters the batch record.
A process lot weighs input and records outputs, waste and rework at each stage, normally keeping supply lots separate. Batch records include slice thickness, conditioning time, drying endpoint and screen specification. During equipment stop, document material moisture and workstation before deciding whether processing may continue. Before restart, check whether microbial and moisture risks changed during the stop. Slice thickness covers startup, steady and tail sections instead of only the best post-adjustment sample.
- Processing changes quality and mass
- Piece form affects mass transfer
- Material state governs stop disposition
04 · Traditional processing is not a colour change
Temperature, excipients and endpoint form a repeatable process.
Decoction-piece processing can use stir-frying, treating with excipients, steaming or boiling according to the herb. Heat intensity, load, mixing and endpoint affect characteristics and constituents and cannot rest only on an operator’s sense of enough. Xiehecheng operates within this controlled stage. Excipient quality and amount receive separate weighing verification rather than experience alone. Excipient concentration and quantity are recorded by charge rather than only naming the process.
Translating traditional descriptions into industrial parameters can record equipment temperature while omitting herb temperature, moisture and heat uniformity. Larger vessels, mixing and vapour removal change results at the same setpoint. Process inheritance needs measured variables and reference samples. Physical reference samples are renewed and storage-related colour change is recorded. Colour is judged under controlled light with physical limit samples to reduce shift-to-shift drift.
Each processed herb records starting condition, excipient lot, load, temperature-time curve, endpoint and cooling. Operators use physical reference samples with instrument data. A deviating batch is quarantined rather than blended into the next, and process changes receive quality assessment. Line clearance confirms no residue or carryover from the previous herb. Cooling and spreading endpoints also affect moisture, so the process does not end at discharge.
- Processing endpoints need several conditions
- Scale changes heating
- Deviating lots are not blended forward
05 · A test number must correspond to that physical package
Pharmacopoeial tests, methods and sampling define meaning.
Modern TCM quality control combines characteristics, identity, tests, assay and contaminants, with requirements varying by herb and piece. A laboratory result represents the sample and method. If it cannot trace to package, stack position and process lot, a precise number cannot support lot release. Reference-standard lot, expiry and storage state enter raw test records. Method revision and instrument state follow the result to preserve long-term comparability.
Natural herbs can have uneven constituent distribution, and grinding plus homogenisation affect results. Differences in preparation, reference standards or instruments between laboratories can make final-number comparison misleading. Method transfer and dispute testing begin with common-source samples and complete raw records. Exception investigations retain raw chromatography, spectra and weighing data. Contaminant risk is stratified by origin and processing history rather than one frequency for every herb.
Sampler, laboratory and warehouse use one lot chain. Samples are sealed into test, review and retention portions. After failure, investigate sampling, preparation, instrument and material rather than repeat indefinitely for a passing value. Final disposition and investigation conclusion are approved together. Retention quantity supports method review and necessary contaminant testing. Retention quantity covers a full repeat and dispute test so an investigation does not run out of material.
- Results depend on sampling and method
- Common-source samples support comparison
- Failure is not removed through endless retesting
06 · Formulation brings several input lots together
Extraction and charging keep every source traceable.
Jiren makes finished traditional medicines and related preparations. When pieces enter extraction, concentration, granulation or another dosage form, several inputs meet in one finished lot. Each input lot, weighing verification and extraction parameter remains recorded; a passing finished product does not retroactively prove every input process. Charging-point clearance and returned materials also enter batch records. Key data from each input lot remain before blending so an average cannot erase one abnormal source.
Natural variation can accumulate or partially average during extraction and formulation, but arbitrary blending is not a solution. A finished assay alone can miss impurity, fingerprint or process-yield changes. Lot consistency emerges from input stratification, process windows and multidimensional finished-product evaluation. Extraction yield trends are analysed with input moisture, piece form and assay. Extraction yield and fingerprint change are read together because more yield can carry unwanted components.
Before charging, warehouse, production and quality verify name, lot, quantity and release status; scanning does not replace physical confirmation. Extraction records time, temperature, solvent and yield and investigates an abnormal lot separately. Finished records support reverse queries to every incoming supply lot. A finished-product exception traces to every weighing check and equipment state. Line clearance follows residue and label paths so the previous identity cannot enter the next formula.
- Finished lots combine several inputs
- Final assay alone does not prove consistency
- Scanning still needs physical verification
07 · A project label cannot replace the operating entity
Entity, licence, line status and product scope are checked separately.
Luyan disclosures identify Bozhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Decoction Pieces Factory as the specific project operator. A promotional project label should not become another company. Construction or investment information shows direction but not that every line operates, every variety is licensed or orders are currently available. When an entity name changes, historic names and dates remain to prevent misidentification. Licence scope is matched item by item to current products and is not expanded by group publicity.
Selecting companies from a park list can mix project vehicles, group brands and operating manufacturers. Jiren, Xiehecheng and Bozhou TCM Decoction Pieces Factory enter through formulation, piece processing and a manufacturing project, with different evidence depth and status. Comparison must preserve that asymmetry. Licences are checked for site and dosage form rather than replaced by a group profile. Project operating status is confirmed through the legal entity and line information, not inferred from planning text.
Before engagement, build an entity sheet with full legal name, plant, licensed scope, operating lines, products and latest verification date. A construction or trial project receives questions on stage, validation and release, while a mature product moves to specification, lot and quality agreement. One questionnaire does not fit both. Trial-operation results retain unfinished validation and corrective items. The entity table carries a review date and is rechecked after legal, address or licence changes.
- A project label is not an entity
- The three entities have different status
- Questions follow line stage
08 · Recall scope depends on whether the lot chain breaks
Distribution, retention and change records narrow uncertainty.
Herbs can be repacked, split and combined from origin through market, piece maker and medicine company. If each transformation retains only name and mass, the affected scope is hard to locate after an exception. Modern TCM traceability connects supply lot, process lot, release status and distribution. Voided and reprinted labels are reconciled daily with physical stock. Trace drills record duration and break points because a successful scan does not prove a complete chain.
A traceability code does not make records reliable. Manual entry, label reprint, rework and warehouse moves can create breaks, and the system must show who changed what and when. An overly broad recall wastes product, while a narrow one leaves risk. Proven lot relations determine scope. Recall drills test communication, systems and warehouse hold together. Rework, blending and relabelling are high-risk nodes with approval and quantity retained for each event.
Periodically select a finished lot for bidirectional tracing: backward to every input, test and process record and forward to inventory and distribution. Reconcile physical and system quantities. When a break appears, repair the process rather than adding one record, and use retained samples according to lot relations. Drill duration runs from initiation decision to isolation of the last inventory item. Breaks found in the drill close before the next batch and receive an independent role review.
- Repacking and splitting create breaks
- Traceability retains edit history
- Bidirectional drills reconcile physical quantities
