Yulin
Northern Yulin combines the southern edge of the Mu Us sandy land, river corridors, farming and pastoral land, and fortifications from several periods. Tongwancheng belongs to a fifth-century capital system, while later walls and forts answered different political and transport conditions; shared use of rammed earth does not make them one era. Roads, villages, restored vegetation and public interpretation now add further layers around the sites, so ancient construction, environmental change and modern management should be read separately.
