Xiamen and Gulangyu: musical heritage in a living community

Gulangyu’s significance comes from the meeting of southern Fujian culture, a modern international settlement, architecture and music, as well as people who still live on the island. Historic buildings, schools, religious sites, homes and tourism coexist; the island is not an uninhabited set.

Xiamen’s electronics base, cross-strait industry links, shared design services and support for fabrication and tools jointly encouraged design-company concentration.

Xiang’an is also exploring solid-state transformers, a different maturity class from established switchgear. Xiamen electrical manufacturing concentrated in Xiang’an, where ABB, XJ and local assemblers cover switching, control and power equipment. An innovation consortium adds high-frequency magnetics and power semiconductors to advanced distribution research. The cluster reflects firms and directions; each project still requires design for voltage, fault level and applicable standards.
