Jixi: Mining Memory, the Muling River Plain and Border Wetlands

Jixi stretches from older coal-mining districts to the state-farm plains and border wetlands of Mishan and Hulin. Industrial labour, agriculture and protected waters coexist without forming one uniform local identity. Xingkai Lake is a defining landmark, but it cannot represent daily life across every district and county; mining transition, reclamation history, water management and community experience need to be read separately.
