Cretaceous strata in a border basin

  • Recognise the setting in which culture actually occurs — Examine exposed strata, interpreted find locations, original fossils and reconstructions as different kinds of evidence, then compare grain, colour and bedding for signs of environmental change in the basin.
  • Participate only where the setting clearly allows it — Follow marked paths between outdoor geological stops and the science hall, checking dates, locations and reconstruction evidence in the labels. Shorten outdoor time when wind or temperature swings are severe.
  • Separate residents’ lives, ritual and performance — Fossils and strata are protected: do not dig, remove fragments or cross barriers. Reconstructions explain scale and posture but do not replace the evidence of actual strata and finds.
