Baoding: distinct rules for mountains, wetland and imperial tombs
Baoding’s selected sites span Taihang mountains, Baiyangdian wetlands, Qing imperial tombs and gorge landscapes. They share a city gateway but belong to distinct ecological, heritage and outdoor-safety contexts.
- Recognise the setting in which culture actually occurs — At Baishishan and Yesanpo, see how paths respond to cliffs and geological hazards; at Baiyangdian, read channels, reeds and bird habitat; at the Western Qing Tombs, connect axes, buildings and landscape.
- Participate only where the setting clearly allows it — Use authorised operators for boats, cableways, hiking and guided visits, and check weather. Join commemorative, ritual or community activity only when it is publicly offered.
- Separate residents’ lives, ritual and performance — Do not enter wetland restoration zones, feed wildlife or cross tomb-protection lines. Temporary mountain closures are safety measures and should not be bypassed.
